Hoping I can find an answer here, currently have an aluminium entrance door with a cylinder knob handle.  Wanting to change it to a smart lock - rest of the house is smart and this is driving me nuts.

The problem is that the backset I need is a 127mm, I rent so can’t really replace the door.  Is there a deadbolt extension backset available for any of the smart locks around, no one can seem to answer the question so I am assuming not.  I do have a latch cylinder 127mm backset extension on hand but pretty sure it wont fit a smart lock (I’m not really a chick that DIY’s this sort of stuff, can handle most other things).

Has anyone else installed a smart lock on a 127mm backset door? If so what did you install?

Thanks.

Is it a deadbolt or a latch at the moment?

If you want to stick with a latch, the only one I'm aware of is a Yale one: https://www.bunnings.co.nz/yale-latching-digital-door-lock_p08901635. You would need to add a zigbee or z-wave module.

I've got the Yale deadbolt equivalent, and it seems to have standard locking hardware inside. You might be able to make it work with your existing backset extender.

If you fitted a deadbolt, I suspect you would be better off getting a non-smart one and fitting something like the August smart lock to it. Deadbolts have different fixing on the door jambs though.

All in all, it's probably a bit of effort for a rental though.
