Hi All,

I have a small 240v computer cooling fan that is quite loud at full speed. Can this be easliy slowed by any of the following.

  • Light dimmer (seems dodgy)
  • Ceiling fan speed controller
  • $80 motor speed controller (seems OTT)
  • Any other ideas

Cheers :)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

It's *probably* a shaded pole motor.

If so, any fan controller or dimmer designed for a lagging power factor should be fine.

Have you considered swapping the fan for a slower one?
