We have a garage that was converted to a rumpus room and its the only room in the house that I have to vaccum/dust almost daily. The garage doors were replaced with sliding doors and the room is sealed. It also has a heatpump that's run often.

My question is would something like an air purifier be effective at removing all the dust? How effective are they really? Any other suggestions?

I suspect until you remove the existing dust and source of the dust there's not a lot of point putting in a purifier. Why is it constantly so dusty? Is something falling from the ceiling, is it under the carpet, etc?

Agreed. The dust must have a source, and that's what you should look at first.

An interesting question about dust. We have recently moved into a newer house with a sealed concrete floor and wood panel walls. However its a mystery to me why its so dusty in one particular room. There seems to be no apparent cause for it, we have to dust every couple of days.

Its in the country and we open the windows and doors daily when sunny, and its not a cluttered room, just a bed with side tables and dresser.

Near fields..... ?

I'd suspect its more pollen than dust.

Maybe the position of the room makes it more open to pollen/dust particles being blown around.

I would have a good look at the carpet/underlay.  If it's a bit older, particularity if it's wool, this could be a significant source.  I was amazed at how much dust was in and under our carpet when recently replaced it, and how much the carpet itself was shedding.

Id leave the windows shut, i.e. lockdown all outside sources, hoover, see what happens
