Hi all,

So our electric heated towel rail has suddenly stopped working. Wanted to check if there wan any advice before having to call in an election?

It's hard wired into a socket. When I flip the switch, the wall socket makes a series of chirps - 11 single, followed by one, two, and three in quick succession. I'm assuming this is some kind of timer (it was already here when we moved in so no details on make). This would seem to indicate the circuit is ok and the problem is with the rail - do the elements just fail / burn out? and if so are they serviceable or should I just be looking to get a replacement unit?

Thanks!

At this stage it could be the timer. It would take further testing to determine.

Probably need a sparky to look at it.

My timer goes something like

12 beeps, to indicate hours it will run, then power level, something like 100%, 75%, 50%. At each point you turn the switch off when you have heard the right setting you want. It runs on a 12 hour timer, so setting at 7am, will have it run at 7pm too.

If it's beeping that many times it should by default run it for 12 hours of every 12 hour period, so it should heat up. That's my theory anyway. Not a sparky so no idea if it's timer or rail issue.

Thanks both,

Yes if I turn off the socket quickly it changes the number of beeps so would seem to agree with various instructions out there, however whatever the settings I would expect it to heat up straight away before the timer kicks in. Will look to get someone in.
