Hi all,

We are looking at renovating our kitchen in Auckland and have received very costly quotes so far. Does anyone here have any recommendations for a renovation company that is reasonably priced?

I had my kitchen completely rebuilt (from the bare floorboards) using Moda Kitchens, approx. 1 year ago.

Michelle (Te Atatu branch) came up with some great ideas and made sure all my questions were answered. They organised the cabinets and benchtop.
Plumbing, electrical, floor tiling and backsplash were done by myself separately.

Had three quotes through Moda Kitchens, Apollo Group and Magic Kitchens - all similar pricing, each with their own unique quoting method!

We did our Kitchen about 4 years ago, we go the Kitchen from https://www.kitchens2go.co.nz/ who we found excellent.

The renovation was done by the Kitchen Krewe Ltd, who were very good, we got his card from kitchens2go. He does not have a website that I could find, I suspect he is one of those guys that they are so busy the dont want one.

All up I think our Kitchen was 30K including cabinets, benchtop, appliances, tiles and all the installation. We could not be happier with the result.

I got mine from Magic Kitchens (Wairau Park), employing a tiler indepently for new surface prior to install, and a sparky to add an extra socket or two, oven install and extractor fan

Would recommend them, for nice 30mm engineered stone workbench was a lot less than other quotes, good quality cabinetry also. 5 years ago cabinetry +workbench + sink + installation cost $7000. Approx 3.5m of workbench total. Tiler, sparky and plumber and appliances extra, keeping plumbing in original locations. Took out old kitchen myself, you could pay handyman to do that.

Try Sage Doors in Rosedale. Yes, I know. Do not judge by name. This IS the hidden place for best quality kitchens at best prices.

You can often see vans of kitchen companies there waiting for pickup.

If you are after engineered stone, then PSP or Lineastone worth a visit.

Hvae you considered flat pack kitchens from Bunnings/Mitre 10/Placemakers as an option? Generally cheaper but still a very good product All three have a design service, I know Bunnings will do an in home design for free and also arrange installation if you want it. Can get all the fancy stuff like engineered stone too.

If I recall the flatpacks are made from chip board and not MDF.

I have been told that MDF is a stronger, harder wearing than chip board in wet area.

One of the latest trend i have seen is using laminated plywood, super strong and hard wearing, also has next level pricing I would expect, the ones I have seen are not edge banded so you get to see the ply grain. Looks really cool in an industrial style kitchen.

Chipboard is used by local kitchen manufacturers too, but they tend to use moisture resistant board with a higher density than the cheap imported flat packs. You can feel the difference when you shut cupboard doors etc.

I've installed a kaboodle (Bunnings) kitchen in a bach and it hasn't held up well after 5 years even with light use. Cheap board and fittings. Wouldn't recommend.
