Have a 10 yr old Methven Promix Sink Mixer and water is starting to seep out of the base of the faucet.  Two plumbers I have rung seem reluctant to repair due to age and have suggested just getting a new tap.  The same mixer is now around $260 dollars, and was thinking about buying one from Bunnings or Mitre 10 however not sure about brands or quality.  The other option is to use the ones plumbers just carry as stock with them, but I would rather know what is being installed.

Any thoughts on buying one from M10 or Bunnings and if so, which brand?

Aquatica is fairly good and reasonable priced. I replaced my kitchen mixer, I'm not a plumber and it took me a good few hours or maybe a bit more from memory.

Happened to replace my mixer yesterday. I chose this one https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/foreno-tradeline-sink-faucet-chrome/p/158692, as the price tag is reasonable and the quality is good and with 10 years warranty.

I replaced mine with this from mitre 10. Was very easy and straight forward, no plumber required.

Looks like Foreno is a good brand.

Do they have isolation taps on each outlet under the sink. If so, it maybe a simple case of switching it over with a new tap. I have heard that the metal flexi pipes used to connect some tap can be problematic longer term, and spring  leaks, so IMO always get a good quality brand. Aren't Methven ones still made in NZ?

Aquatica is an NZ company I think. I've had good support from them with a minor issue on one of their tubs.

Methven are great but sometimes 3X more than Aquatica.

You can turn off the water to the taps under the sink instead of turning off the mains if thats what you mean by isolation taps.  Methven and Greens I believe are made in NZ.

I recently installed new kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and shower mixers in 'Vogue' brand from Trade Depot. https://www.tradedepot.co.nz/kitchen-mixer-flat-black

Very happy with the quality and price.

You get what you pay for I have found, but you can get some decent discounts by shopping around.  I have used Blanco recently like this https://www.blanco.com/int-en/mixer-taps/linus-f/ and the one I got has  a lifetime warranty, and got it at a significant discount with a trade account. The price worked out as less than a no name brand tap at a big box retailer.  Zip plumbing often also have a decent discount on things every so often.

Yeah, but some brands are marked up due to their name. We have Methven in our bathroom as it's meant to last a while, whereas Aquatica which has a 5 year warranty is fine for the kitchen which we'll replace in a couple of years.

I was just trying to replace the feeder flexi pipes as they're meant to be replaced occasionally, and had taken the old ones out only to find the new ones didn't fit, and managed to damage the old ones in the process. So I had to buy something available at Mitre Ten on a Saturday afternoon.

Aquatica seems like a decent brand. Their taps work well, got one of their tubs which works well.

Thanks everyone.  Ended up buying a Methven Centique which I got for $143.  Actually trying to replace myself, but cannot move the long mounting nuts that secure the tap to the sink.  Its a long nut that covers the length of the screw.  If anyone has any good ideas on how to make it move a bit that would be great as right now it seems a bit frozen.

From memory you use a special tool that comes with the tap? Otherwise CRC or hit it with a hammer...

Except don't hit it with a hammer.

Methven have a 20 year warranty if you have the original receipt for your old one.

I don't think a warranty against a "material defect which arose in the course of manufacture" would help if the leak is caused by an o-ring that's worn after 10 years. The plumbers probably can't be bothered identifying the exact model of mixer so they can get the replacement seals.

Or it being hit with a hammer at some point during the proceedings :-).
