The only thing I dont like is our vanities in both bathrooms, they are those really slim small ones, which just creates a lot of mess.

The cabinet can come out about 45cm, but I want the actual sinks to be about 40cm deep. In the main bathroom a singe long sink would be awesome and in the ensuite, just a more sizeable sink and floating vanities to cover the pipework coming out of the wall.

Any suggestions for something quality but not overly pricey?

Thanks all.

A trek around Wairau and Albany would be good to see lots of different designs in half a day or so.

No, I thought they only did tools :-)

Yes also I could try albany, which stores stock this kind of cabinetry and sinks. I like the sinks that sit flush on the floating vanity. The house will be completely renovated and modern then, even though its only 10 years old, the original carpet, paint and kitchen was a bit odd lol.

Went to some of the cut-price places in Wairau and they were just really cheaply made, you could see why they cost less than everyone else. Also looked at a relatively cheap one being advertised at M10 and asked the guy there whether it was any good, his response was "No". So check carefully into what it is you're getting. And as a general hint for vanities, HMR MDF isn't. I'd go with a plywood one.

bunnings, mitre 10, placemakers, clearlite bathrooms, elite bathrooms, plumping world, plumbing plus, mico, chesters. a quick google search will give you more places. most will be similar in quality. cheaper ones are cheap for a reason.

you will struggle to find many vanities that are deeper than 450mm as that seems to be the standard size.

Elite bathrooms sound good. I tried the usuals (m10 etc) and was all cheap stuff.

Sorry I meant I want a deep sink, our current ones must be 30cm by 30cm, pain in the butt with the tap right in the middle. Nice porcelain just too small, and the vanities are rubbish.

Im looking at up to $1000 for a twin, Id really love a single sink that is long with 2 taps. And a smaller one for the ensuite.

Cheers.

We ended up getting ours from Bathroom Clearance, nice-looking and made of plywood not MDF.

You do get what you pay for. Try Plumbline. Also some stores that also supply plumbers, do have some good discounts at certain times. Also suggest asking some plumbers what they recommend, although ask a good experienced one, because they should be used to removing them, so know which ones are crap.. Personally I dislike vanity units, and just prefer porcelain basins and separate storage in a bathroom. Mainly because many I have seen are ugly and cheaply made.

Athena from Plumbing World. I call them wall mounted rather than floating.

Possibly a redundant question, but have you had a wall-mounted vanity before? The area under those collects dust and dirt that then gets cemented onto the floor via occasional water splashes from the vanity, they're a huge pain to keep clean. I'd never go with a wall-mounted because of the problem of keeping the area under them clean.

If your budget allows try not to go with MDF. When it gets wet......

I got our builder to make a vanity out of some kind of compressed bamboo board and got an additional stone top alongside the kitchen bench for it. Put a sink from Bunnings on the top.

When you say you want a 400 deep sink, I assume you mean 400 from front to back and not how you measure depth in a swimming pool?

If you can only accommodate a vanity that is 450 deep (meaning 450 from the wall), and want a 400 deep basin (meaning horizontal depth); then I think you'll need vessel basins on top of the countertop and either wall mounted or offset tower mixers.

That's what I like about wall mounted vanities, when the floor is cleaned, under the vanity is cleaned as well.

I agree 100%. Even worse if its an ensuite and has a toilet. I took out the drawer in the current one and the stuff on the floor is simply build up over its 10 year life span, not pleasant.

Sounds like ply is the way to go, definitely do not want sub par quality. If it was an IP I wouldnt mind so much, but want to add some value but also enjoy what we put in.

Looking at a proper extractor and quad lamps, those cheaper extractors are pointless. The good ones are $300 minimum. Sun lamps are cheap, saw quads starting at $400. currently on 3 switches, main down lights, the sun lamp and the extractor fan, so that shouldnt cost too much to install with the new ones.

Has anybody got one of those LED Mirrors? I dont like the current mirrors, Im just wondering if the LED ones are functional in that they improve visibility even with the led down lights on etc?
