This TrimmerBoss thing keeps appearing in my ads and it looks like it's exactly what I need to get rid of some stuff in my garden and lawn

Anyone used it before? It says it will attach to any weed eater stick but I don't see how ...

Also I found them on the internet ranging between

Wish - $14

Dealsdirect.nz - $60

Trimmerboss.com - $70

Would appreciate any feedback.

I imagine if the wire breaks you're in for a lot of trouble as you'll have skin piercing bits of twisted metal in your garden.

Looks like a good way to get a piece of wire embedded in your shin

edit: posted that before reading to the end :p

I've seen them too, and would be great.....  if I see one cheap enuff I might grab it and give it a go - I hate having to swap out the line every 30s. And we have some tough weeds etc around here.

Will ensure suitable attire first though.... how much is a suit of armor these days ?

My trimmer has a seperate empty spool where you attached one piece of nylon, last for a good while.

I prefer Roundup as it kills the weed and roots. Trimming any plant encourages regrowth

I have one of these Alex Brushcutter heads, works well to replace the old head on my trimmer. Around $150 shipped from memory, and you still have to replace line fairly regularly, but it's fairly quick and easy.

I haven't noticed anybody using a weed wacker commercially fitted with anything other than a bump feed head. They probably use better line than handyman packs. Cheap line breaks as it leaves the head or welds itself together on the spool.

Looks really good for the kind of jobs it's designed for (obviously not for general grass cutting). You can tell from the videos that it has quite a bit of sideways kick to it though, so be prepared for that :-). I can't believe somebody used it to clean their roof as one of the photos shows..!

The guard will prevent anything going backwards, but yeah, you need to be very aware of what is in front of you (i.e. which way you face) as it's probably going to kick out stones etc at pretty high speed like hard blades will.

Had an electric Stihl weedeater years ago that had a trigger on the handle to feed wire - thought it was way better than those head bump things.

Bought a  petrol weedeater after that. Spent about an hour trying the get the bloody thing to start, about half an hour actually cutting grass, than about another hour trying to reload more wire. Its still sitting in the garage unused about a decade later.

Ive always found my 2 stroke tools to start easily

Lock the throttle, set choke on, fill the primer bubble if its empty, then 5 pumps, two or three pulls, you can feel it trying to fire, choke off, pull and away you go.

I can do the petrol lawnmower fine, but then thats 4-stroke...

So a battery powered weedeater with something that doesn't use wire would suit me fine, as in this wire brush thing possibly...

We have had a 2-stroke ryobi trimmer for years. Used it a fair bit but needed to replace the spark plug this year. Bought a new 18V one instead and have used it more in the last two months than the ryobi saw in the last 3 years. Even my wife is happy to grab it and use it unlike the petrol one. So much more convenient. no need to mix up fuel, you just grab a charged battery and go. Much easier to overcome the mental block associated with the 2-stroke engines.

Also instead of the dangerous looking brush head, why not use a normal scrub cutting blade instead of that thing? I would also be very cautious about using any kind of powertool attachment sold on Wish.

Would a cutting blade be any safer, or are you talking about the plastic and not metal variety ?

I think it's designed for where you wouldn't use a blade (because you'd break it), so it's for getting very close to paths/walls. That and actually scouring off moss etc.
