M10 are running a promotion with the prize being a 3-minute trolley grab in their Takanini store.

One trolley, max 2 of an item, $10K max total value.

I would probably go for smallish, high value, sellable items, such as DeWalt power tools, and possibly Makita.

What would you grab?

Cash register?! Otherwise expensive power tools and accessories such as batteries.

Would there be any cash in a cash register these days?

You could try a fireplace:

https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/metrofires-ultra-built-in-ve-wood-fire-package/p/348711

But don't know how well that would fit on your trolley.

But hard to beat the power tool value to weight/size ratio:

https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/makita-6-piece-combo-kit-40-volt-6-piece/p/367674

Three of these and you're 96% of the way done. Even if they restrict you to one of each product, you're standing in that area, just throw in different kits from Makita and Dewalt and you can cruise to the checkout and still have 2.5 minutes left.

I'd be tempted to throw in a Weber BBQ but only if it was on the way to the power tools.

Thought about this too - expanding my DeWalt tools would be top of list. Plus blades/drill bit kits from the tool area.
Standalone batteries are often locked, so need to get kits if you want batteries

The blonde at the paint counter.

How specific are the exclusions for what you can and can't take?

Now, now folks, this is a family show.

Wonder what the weight limit on a trolley is?

I suspect they're going to run it at a specific store where they've removed/locked away the high-value easily-grabbed items. Otherwise they're just asking for a targeted looting rather than people taking things they really need for their home reno or whatever.

They have a $10k cap to restrict the marketing spend. I'm sure they will want to publish lots of photo of a trolley load of expensive power-tools etc.

3min is not going to allow the buyer to pick out what they need. - They might take the opportunity to upgrade their set of power tools via the big kits mentioned above, but I think a good bunch of the stuff grabbed is going to be stuff that is valuable on trademe / facebook marketplace.

I would expect a lot of the larger, higher end brand powertool kits will end up in the trolley. These can be parted out, and sold for good money, in some cases more than retail.

How wide are the aisles in this store?

An appropriately sized sheet of 12mm plywood to put across the top of the trolley to stack more stuff on. 😎

Would have to scout the store out beforehand, but at the local M10 (or maybe its Bunnings???) the plywood is inside. On second thoughts, a shower cubicle would be better. Lay it on it's back, open the door, start tossing stuff inside. And good resale value on the cubicle itself. :)

Nah, use Elfa shelving for it, at the obscene markups they put on that in NZ the shelving will be worth about as much as the stuff you pile on it.

Step 1: Grab Dewalt 40V demolition saw.

Step 2: Use goods from Step 1 to open lockable cabinets.

Step 3: Profit!
