I have a DeWalt 10.8 drill driver that I use for DIY about 5 years old.  And its smoking and about to burn out, is it worth trying to repair or replace?

I also have an AEG 18v which is used for heavier type work but I like the convenience of the smaller DeWalt 10.8.

Is it brushless? If it's a brushed motor, then you can order replacement brushes through your retailer - around $30 and easy to replace
