Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a new home builder in Wellington?

And any advice to look out for when selecting one and throughout the build process.

Thanks in advance

I'm not in Wellington, so can't suggest any (and I'm assuming you're going the bespoke route, rather than through a showhome company), but having built, my advice is to consider prices from at least 3 builders, but don't let price be the main factor - go with who you 'click' with when you meet them, as building is a big, complicated and expensive undertaking with a lot of involvement, so you need someone you'll feel comfortable with having involved and often difficult conversations with.  Unless you're building to sell as an investment, you'll likely have a vision for what you're building and you need someone who can buy into that, and gets the kind of things you're trying to achieve - for example, you might be into passivhaus/SIP etc, and a lot of old-school guys distrust that kind of approach

Get references too if possible, and I'd typically suggest smaller firms, as larger firms can do the 'bait and switch' where they send the nice person to meet with you and get your business, and then you rarely see them again.  When I built, the business owner was on the tools every day with one other LBP and a couple of labourers as required.
