When fixing a torn plasterboard, I gathered that you have to apply a sealer before applying a plaster. Can I use Resene Sureseal (pigmented sealer) or Zinsser Bin Primer-sealer? This is a very small job, like a palm sized torn, what product do you suggest using to skim coat it?

I've done quite a lot of Gib repairing and filling over the years. In recent years I have successfully used this - smooth to put on and easy to sand without clogging.

Contract Filler is what you want.  Then paint as normal.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

What do you already have? If you already have a solvent bourne sealer and plaster use that.

I already applied the Zinsser Bin Primer sealer on it. I think it's okay. I got Polyfilla for Kitchen and bathroom. It says RTU filler. Will that be okay?

Have a similar question (don't want to hijack)...

We have had a 2000mm H x 200mm W section cut/replaced for our heat pump install (attached).

Is this a DIY patch fill or professional plasterer job or does that GIB look too bad to work with so replace and patch fill gaps or plaster?

@AklBen Will you need access to whatever is in there at some time in the future?

Obviously the heat pump installer knew that fixing the wall wasn't going to be their job. To hide the ugliness the plastering will have to be blended either side of the patch if you want it to look flat. I'd start by seeing how much a pro would charge.

Nope :)

And yeah, we're repainting the room so I am not upset if their job was rough as getting a plasterer would be good for other parts of the house anyway...

Wow! That's a mess but once it's plastered properly (by a pro), it should be alright. I had cuts done on my kitchen by electricians and yes, they left it just like that. I had my ceiling skimmed so the plaster guy did those patches too. after priming and painting the wall, it doesn't look like it ever exits.  Get a pro unless you think you can do it.

I went ahead on what I have, the polyfilla and it worked well.
