Hi all,

The RCD in the bathroom has started buzzing and from what I’ve read it’s probably a good idea to get somebody to come take a look at it.

I was just wondering whether anybody had any recommendations for electricians on the North Shore? Last time I got stung by Laser ($220 for a single LED light replacement), so keen not to repeat that again 😅

Many thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Yeah, trouble is most electricians charge a callout fee plus a minimum hourly charge, so small jobs can be really costly. I got stung about the same for install of an external power point which I'd already purchased, took the guy about 20 mins and ~30cm of 2.5mm TPE.

Get an estimate over the phone and see if you can bundle in some other work you might have been putting off at the same time to make it worthwhile.

Oh and when I was living in the Bays I used Astero Electrical for some reno work, he was very good and reasonably priced. Check out No Cowboys for other recommendations.

(EDIT: fix link)

We have had a couple of small jobs, similar to yours, done by Exotic Electrical (NZ) Limited, based in Birkdale. Young guy, Avi Verma, is reliable and very reasonable pricing.

We originally found him via No Cowboys (or maybe it was Builderscrack, have used both and can’t remember now). Can’t fault the service.

There's a shortage of domestic sparks country wide, it will take 10 years+ to change and of course Govt will knee jerk react to it and let any incompetent person get a ticket. Treat your sparks well and they'll come back for domestic work.

We've had a bit of electrical work done over the last year or two - Moss Electrical were excellent.

I've used James Smith Electrical (James Smith Electrical | Your local Hillcrest electrician - James Smith Electrical) several times at home, and they recently did a massive fitout on a new building I leased for work. I'd highly recommend them.
