Is the standard current NZ kitchen trap and drain pipe rated for boiling water?

Older pvc sink traps I think definitely not.

The stainless steel sink conducts some of the temperature away. In practical terms can I drain pasta directly into the sink or should I use an intermediate pot or bowl in the sink as I mostly do?

I usually turn the cold tap on and slowly tip the boiling water into the cold stream.

this would usually apply for most drains

Temp range: All Marley drains, wastes and vents are suitable for the continuous discharge of liquids at temperatures up to 60°C for vertical pipes and grade pipes, as well as intermittent discharges of liquids up to 90°C where the duration of the discharge does not exceed 90 seconds

The S bend will retain water for a long period. Technically that's equivalent to a discharge longer than 90 seconds.

Dux say their polypropylene traps can be sterilised with steam and in absence of stress can cope with 150⁰C.

I've been dumping the pasta and rice water in the sink for ages and the sky hasn't fallen.

Pasta water straight in the sink for many years through older pvc pipes. Boiling water straight in when a sink blockage. All good so far. Rice I use the absorption method, it’s far tastier.
