Has anyone with extensive irrigation ever managed to get a wastewater charge adjustment/rebate?

Depends who your water supplier is. But assuming Auckland - you need to get an irrigation meter from Watercare to separately measure your irrigation use (for which they don't apply wastewater charges).

Thanks! I had called once before and asked about a rebate, and they said none existed. Never knew I could get another meter. Will need to run the numbers, appear to cost around $2K to install + my plumbers charges.

I believe Auckland also charges you for stormwater, based on your water usage?

Can you apply for a stormwater rebate if you harvest the rainwater off your roof?

I don't think that is correct, I think its via your rates rather than Watercare.

nope, waste water is charged by watercare at .785 of the freshwater consumed at a rate of $3.174/kL, vs $1.825/kL for fresh water.

Why would you apply for a rebate for water harvested off you roof? that's water you wouldn't draw from the city and not metered so surely they should be chasing you for money for it going down the drain.

say it cost $2500 to install that's a 787kL of water down the drain or about 1000kL of water coming into the property to break even on the install alone. you would have to be using a lot of water for it to make sense

I haven't run the numbers yet, but it would be 1-2 years of irrigation usage to get even I think.

Still working it out on my new system, but what I would call a medium zone uses 1kL per hour and at the moment I am running it 3 hours per day (extensive drip line). There is 4 other zones, the lawn gets laid today and then I will see how much the biggest zone uses.

Unless you have to be able to eat it have you considered planting less water dependant things?

Where we are there are no rebates and the metered water increases in price as consumption goes up to discourage high use.

You also need to add on $141.00+GST per annum for "backflow prevention device testing". Probably still beneficial in your case, but the one thing you can be certain of with Auckland Council is prices will go up.

Why is there no rebate for pool owners? We lose thousands of litres per year in evaporation from our pool over summer. None of that is going to waste water.

there is you just have to put in an irrigation meter

its the decision you have to make, do you use enough to justify it.
