I need to figure out how many litres my Fisher and Paykel Quicksmart 6kg washing machine uses on the Low Med and High settings.  Google didn't turn much up so I wondered if someone here will know.   It doesn't have to be exact, I am trying to re waterproof some gear and it wants me to wash one full bottle of the product in about 40L of water, and I have no idea which water fill setting to use.

Anyone know?

Just redirect the drain hose into a large bucket, run a cycle and see how much comes out.

Recent machines auto sense the water level.

Maybe you could ring F&P and ask them.

Or just pour 40 litres into the washing machine, make a note of where the water comes up to, and then watch when it fills to on low, then medium.

This  (page 80) says a 6kg (medium)  F+P uses

High 82 litres

Medium high 65 litres

Medium  52 litres

Medium low 38 litres

Low 25 litres

Thanks, I went through my user manual and didn't see it.  Never thought to search for a service manual.

What is this, and how does it work? Just curious, if it's something that seals up clothing how would it not also gum up the washing machine?

Wow that is a lot. Probably the sum of more than one rinse/wash cycles? The OP may want to only get one cycle through otherwise it might undo the point of the waterproofing exercise.

Product I used in the past was Nikwax - which is a chemical wash that enhances water resistance. I think it works best with a iron or tumble dry. Though you would need to check your garment on this. Pretty sure it is safe for your washing machine.

Nope, according to that manual, that's how much it uses per fill. A wash with a wash and rinse will use twice that.

Top Loaders use a lot more water than front loaders. But yep, you're right, maybe just running the chemical through on the rinse program only.

Why not find a container (sink or bath?) that holds 40l and soak the gear in that? Or, depending on the amount of gear you want to treat, 20l and half the bottle of product.
