What do I need to get these speakers working?

Connecting these two little grey wires to an RCA (I think) jack doesn't do anything. Guessing I need some sort of amp? If possible, very small.

You will need some sort of amplifier/receiver with speaker output/terminals

Yup, amplifier - those speakers look as if theyre from a mini system, so wouldve been powered by a combined amp/cd/tuner/tape unit.

These little amps from Amazon AU are well reviewed but I haven't used one myself - ended up buying some bluetooth speakers instead

Prob tad overkill :D Those mini-system speakers are fairly low wattage :)

They should have a rating on the back of them but generally any mini-system amp will run them without killing them :)

Good use case to pop into your local rummage (rubbish dump recovery store) and pick up a old school stereo, perfect :-)

You just need to be careful to not plug in a powerful AMP that may kill the speakers.

Those speakers were probably heavily equalized by the matching system so expect them to have weird bass on anything else powering them.

Which leads to the followup question, do you actually want to get those working? That is, are they intended for something like blasting music in a garage, or good-quality sound listening?

Thank you all. I now know what to look for. Not interested in the Hi-Fi option. Size / space & purpose are my man considerations.

Look at something like this then - smaller than those speakers and self contained. I picked up a set about 18 months ago on sale, and love them.

I use mine with my PC and turntable.

Not suitable as a home sound system but as a personal setup, theyre great.
