Trying to help my daughter sort out one of her guitars - one of the wires has come away from a volume control and requires soldering, but not sure where its come from and where to go. Have stripped it back cleanly and tried touching it to where I think it goes but no go.

Assistance appreciated :D  Red is the wire, green is where I suspect it needs to go.. am I right tho ? Get no feedback when touching that connection though....

Can you describe the fault, and the function of each pot?

There’s a few ways to wire up a guitar .  But the photo looks a bit like a telecaster with single coils and “dark circuit” wiring (because of the two capacitors).  Have a look at this https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/factory-telecaster-wirings-pt-1

I'd probably start by trying to identify the wires from the coils.  Very roughly, the DC resistance of a coil is around 5k ohms

Take it to your local electrical service (appliance) shop ... like the old fashion radio repair places.

They will not only test the circuitry and resolder correctly, but replace or tidy up frayed wiring and soldered joints that are started to get old and fracture.  Well worth a few dollars for years of further usage.

Where in NZ are you?

Im happy to redo the wiring etc, its just a matter of knowing where it goes is my problem :D

And she only really uses the guitar for practice, she has plenty of others to use in meantime :)

Guessing that it's the tip in the output jack I think it's supposed to go to the middle tag on the volume pot. Just to left of orange capacitor (sort of opposite green squiggle).

There's a number of different ways to wire up a Telecaster. Fralin, Seymour Duncan and a host of other sites all have good diagrams. TBH, if I was working on this Tele I'd be completely re-wiring it - it's pretty messy in there right now. From the 2 orange drop caps that've been put in there, I'm assuming it's a HS Tele (as in one of each of a Humbucker and Single coil pickups)?

If so, the HS Telecaster wiring diagram on the Fralin site is a good one to follow. Your 250k tone pot (the one the wires have come away from) is fine, make sure the volume pot is 500k. Also make sure the orange drop cap soldered to the tone pot is 0.047k.

Edit: Just read the response from tim0001 - he'll be correct, I should've stayed asleep...🤣
