Hi all

I have a LG GX sound bar I’m thinking of mounting on the wall. Problem is the transformer. Anyone know if these can be put in the wall? The wall does have batts in it. The transformer output is 25v 2 amp, 50w. If anyone has done this before what box did you use on/in the wall?

Cheers

Mike

I certainly wouldn’t, and I doubt if it’s legal.
What you probably could do is take an extension cable from the output, feed it in the wall somewhere at the bottom behind your cabinet, if you have one, and bring it out behind the soundbar.

I would not recommend it. It does not sound legal either.

Imo get an enclosure like a wall fusebox and add a point in there + venting top and bottom and a small fan. Or make a simpler ventilated nook.

Any reason you cannot wall mount it with some air gap?

The tv is obviously nearby, you could utilise the back of this panel.
- most tvs have a socket or clip to install a safety (safety being a strap or tie or chain to prevent tip over or falling if the bracket fails for some reason).

I’d be checking the specs and intended usage for the sound bar too…. So they reccomend wall mount? I woulda thought most of these sound bars are optimised to sit on a cabinet and somewhat use that to assist the reverb.

Thanks for the replies. The tv and sound bar sit flat against the wall, I’m putting a dynamix recessed av box behind the tv for power, hdmi and network. For the soundbar the transformer will not fit in a box so was looking for alternatives. I might look at getting an extension for the dc out and then just run that and hdmi to the soundbar.

Thanks again

The power and AV/network should not be in the same box inside the wall.

Problem solved, SWMBO has decided she doesn’t like the sound bar, so I will no longer be wall mounting it..

Cheers all

I understand the OP requirement - thin TVs sit tight against the wall - such as Samsung's "the Frame" TVs. It would ruin the look to have these with a gap behind them to fit the transformer for the sound bar.

In this instance you'd need to put the sound bar power adapter 12V cable into the wall somewhere nearby through a flushbox and route it up to the soundbar through another soundbox - messy.

My preference (because I'm always using a streamer e.g. AppleTV) would be to use bluetooth speakers instead of a soundbar and locate them elsewhere.
