I believe it is alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride.

Has anyone purchased this chemical and deployed it successfully instead of the branded product? Where did you get it from, what dilution etc and how did it turn out?

I need to treat quite a large area for moss/mold/green stuff and W&F would cost about a grand by the time I finished!

If you look at bunnings etc, there are quite a few brands that are quite a bit cheaper the wet and forget, and pretty much the same active ingredients.

Depends how you are using. I use a pump electric 25l tank sprayer and hose plug in for hard to reach areas such as the roof.

At the time I used cyclone 5L concentrate and made 25L was the cheapest.

Some, but delicate surfaces could be damaged and it it creates a nice substrate to come back whereas if the marketing is to be believed, W&F has a long term effect.

Case in point. Nearly two years ago I covered every concrete surface, fences and iron roofs with cyclone and wet and forget products. Moss, mold and lichen was quite bad. It got rid of it and hasn't come back!

Looks like there are various types including sodium hypochlorite, benzalkonium chloride and dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride.

The first one of those I've used on concrete before and it appeared to bleach the concrete... which was OK for a driveway but definitely not OK for other surfaces.

Great to hear. Cyclone "Apply and Let Dry" is 1/4 the price of W&F with same dilution rate.

I’m very anti W&F.  It’s expensive and I’m sure they simply import the active ingredient in bulk, probably very cheaply, then dilute it with water and package it. I use the 30 Seconds equivalent and it works fine for me at a much more reasonable price.

I think all W&F products are crazily expensive but I concede they work well. The 30 Sec window wash in a dispensing container that connects to your hose, is a very good product too.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

HamCem in Hamilton do Keep Kleen. Same product, way cheaper. Also a good source of other cleaning products.

If I just have a small area to do I get some cheap disinfectant containing Benzalkonium Chloride and further dilute it. Consumer once tested moss removers and found that they didn't need to be particularly concentrated to work so long as the surface was well wetted with it. For bigger areas I've started with concentrated swimming pool algaecide. I think Fred99 knew a thing or two about the science and there's differences between disinfectant and moss removers but both seem to work.

I did the request quote for 5L - seems like you can't just order it?

Snap, was just about to post this product.  Basically the same as W&F

Yes its irritating that you cannot just buy it automatically.  From memory I rang them and ordered it at the time rather than faffing about with email, but that was quite a few years ago.
