Hey all, I have some diamond window leading that looks like it was self adhesive.

Has anyone in their reno journey come across anything like this before, interested in where it may have come from and methods to tidy it up if it can be purchased in varying sizes/shapes etc

I seem to be hitting a wall finding much on it, understand it maybe un-obtainable, house is 15 yrs

Had this at my parents old tudor style house and I think they came up blank as well. One option might be to get a sign writer to cut one in heavy duty black vinyl for you. Shouldn't be too difficult to apply once you've scraped the old one off. Are the frosted diamonds also adhesive, or is that etched?

Search again. "Self adhesive window lead" gives several NZ sources including Bunnings.

Interesting, I took a sample into Bunnings and was told no....

Have you used their product before?

Hell a lot cheaper to replace a single pain of glass and out tape on it than actual leaded windows.

Coming from a leaded windows owner.

Hearing you there, there are 4 more of those pains though.  this is the only one with degradation. looking for a repair situation rather than replacement.  Just to take the eye off it

It looks like when it was produced it was a complete overlay on the etched glass as there are no joins in the diamonds.  feels rough to the touch and very thin.  Nothing like lead beads

Oh like a car wrap but in clear plastic with a pattern? That’s quite clever. Harder as an individual to replace than tape strips though

almost, the "lead" diamonds are like one big sticker, top to bottom.

What are the tape strips like?

I was very interested in this post.

When we built our house 34 years ago, we had fake leading applied to windows which faced the front of the house.

The fake leading did very well for a number of years and I cleaned the windows as softly as I could, but over the years the leading began to detach from the window.

I don't think my fake leading is the same as shown in this post. I must admit when it was first applied the 'finish' was excellent. No glue was showing. The fake leading is like a very coarse sand paper.

Now, I am scraping off the fake leading and glue with a glass scraper, but the glue is very difficult to completely remove.

I wondered, if anyone knew of a product which I could use to get the remainer of the glue off.

So far, I have only used glass cleaner.

Attached are some photos which are taken with most of the fake leading removed, but prior to me using the glass scraper.

The fake leading was applied to the inside and outside of the window.
