Hi guys,

We have a rather large ~2.1M mango wooden table that we've had for about 5 years that I would like to re-apply the surface wax.

Do I need to totally sand down the existing surface to get rid of the old wax?

Here are some photos of the surface.

IANA expert but we had a similar table and similar situation a few years ago. I went into a reputable antiques shop and asked about it - they recommended this product. Available at Bunnings and M10. It worked really well and I was very pleased with the result. Just apply it over the top of the existing finish following the instructions  and you will probably be surprised how well it comes up.

From your photos, your table looks to be in pretty good nick. Unless there’s more to this than mentioned in your OP, I certainly wouldn’t sand the table back - you would be creating a very different project for yourself.

Yeah, we've also used the Briwax and it works well.  Just be careful when you're buying whether you getting clear or tinted.  We've always used clear.

Is it definitely wax and not something more substantial?  That's in pretty good shape if it's had five years use, it usually needs to be done every year or so.
