HI

Hopefully a simple question.  Newish house ( 5 years old ), going to be installing Ducted aircon..

Looking at integration ventilation into it at the same time.

Have been looking at Lossnay systems and i see they have ERV and HRV options .  Depending on the installer they are quoting the VL350 ( HRV ) and others are quoting the 25/35RVx3. ( ERV ).

Whats best in chch ..?  Old property ( 2013 new build ) had an ERV with paper core.  Works well, maybe too well as the house is overly dry.

Thoughts / Advice

THanks

i think the single biggest problem you will run into is all the salesman BS. lots of info you need to know but they won't tell you because it can increase the price.

for eg, ERV keeps a lot of the moisture IN a house, you can't really use them to dry a house like HRV. which is at odds with your comment. ERV's should always be paired with a dehumidifier. but probably whats happening is the house is very air leaky and its drying via that, but that also means the ERV isn't really doing a whole lot. this is why you really need a blower door test done to know how much air the house leaks and then work out whats the best ventilation solution from there. for eg air tight houses can't have bath fans. bath fans decompress the house to much. hence they use the erv as the bath fan.

i've also seen sales tell a customer the erv has a built in dehumidifier. which is doesn't. they just flat out make stuff up to get a sale.

the other issues is they sell it, but don't care about the design or install, which is a big part of the issues alldrag has had.

brands, losnays seam old hat. i think at least some of the panasonics are similar in that regard. you should not need a controller. ventilation should be set and forget.  (i think alldrags model needs the controller to be able to set up the ventilation). there is better brands out there that do just that, you se the airflow and leave it alone.

intergration seams to be poor. i think the lossnay has it back to front. eg when the heat pump turns on it turns on the erv. it should be the other way around, you turn on the erv and it turns on the heatpump fan.

you can do separate systems, but it gets messy with multiple outlets in each room. i've seen some hack jobs try and combine outlets. not good.
