Just picked up one of the Makita 40V plunge/track saws. Is the base supposed to be convex? This one is so warped you don't even have to look for it, it's plainly noticeable.

I can't see how it's possible to get a cut anywhere near accurate with this...

I can already see how this happens...

The bevel adjustment is double (or dual-pole?), with adjustments at the front and back of the saw. These screw into the base, but bevel separately from each other when the base is detached.

If the bevel adjustments are set before screwing into the base, they'll almost certainly not be at identical bevel settings which introduces a torque into the base, warping it.

I can partiall remedy it by loosening the bevel adjustments and unscrewing the base, then re-screwing the base with the bevel adjustments untightened.

However it's clear the base is screwed on in the factory with the bevel adjustments locked at non-identical settings which warps the base. When the saw sits on the shelf for who knows how long, the warp in the base becomes permanent, as mine is.

I thought Makita was supposed to be a quality brand? How did it take a hobby woodworker just minutes to diagnose what is probably a significant quality issue in a major label's product? There's no way this isn't extremely common.

There's a 4 year old reddit post almost identical to yours but the square is painted red.
