Turns out we now own one of those portable blowup spa pools.  https://portablespas.co.nz/products/tekapo-spa

It takes approx 1000L of water, so that going to be about a ton.

Apparently the intention was to put it on our downstairs deck, that is about a meter off the ground at its highest point.

The deck was professionally installed by the builder when the house was built.   The house is on poles.  The deck has bearers front and back, doubled up, where one of each is partially cut into the house poles, and both bearers bolted through.  See the pics.

Is a deck of this construction going to hold a spa pool weighing 1ton?  Or do they need special reinforcing?

I can upload different pics if required.

If you are concerned, and you sounds like you are, get a qualified builder or engineer to check that it will be safe...

Don't rely on the advice of a bunch of us forum  dwellers on the internet, 😃

On the plus side the pool is a static load, so it requires less support than a dynamic one..

Depends on how active you are I guess 😉. Things like backflips and running around the outside creating whirlpools will add extra.

My first reaction is no.  Decks are not generally made to handle a 1 ton load.  From memory a standard design strength is around 200kg per square meter, unless it is reinforced. So can support a pool with 200mm of water in it, not enough unless you are a toddler.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Its even less than that, you also have to count the weight of the toddler in the water, ( assuming the pool doesn't overflow)

Looking at some spa pool Specs, it looks like you're wanting to load about 500kg/sqm - ( Spas have heaps of foam in them)

This one is 4sqm and claims to weight ~1750kg inc people when full... (1100 litres + 4 people + the empty pool weight)

I would feel more comfortable about it if the joists where on top of the bearers and not hanging off them.

Thanks all.   Think I might get a builder in to reinforce underneath.
