Looking at Mitsi and Fujitsu systems via a couple of different installers in our region ( chch ) .

Mitsi seems to be more cost.

Looking

  •

Mitsubishi Electric PEAD-M100JAA (10.0 kW Cool / 11.2 kW Heat)

  •

    Fujitsu ARTH30KMTAP-HP (8.5 kW Cool / 10.0 kW Heat)

Some installers are suggesting the ARTH30 and others the 36.  All mitsi are the M100..  Its a 150 SQM property.

Keys are Wifi ( to control the unit ), Noise ( has to be bloody quiet in all aspects, indoor unit, outdoor unit etc ) .  Future Ventilation Support a bonus

Whilst i would also Love zoning, ( and only want two zones , front of house and back of house where i could set different temps ) i feel like the Airzone is overpriced for the simple use i would need, and the other zoning options from mitsi are On/Off rather than temp controlled.  ( new zoning system with temp control coming? )  Fujitsu maybe has a zone controller but not sure if its temp based or just on/off control.  and one temp for whole house?

Interested in peoples thoughts on the two systems, what are the gotacha's?

THanks

first thing is the units seam to be a tad small (that would do a smaller house in auckland), which is a bit odd as many installers will oversize the systems.

i suggest finding the calcs and working out what size you need. summer is the hard one to work out due to solar gain. a lot of it will depend on what sort of house it is, what windows it has and what direction they face.

16kw feels very large.  Something not right there.  Bdt suggested the same size when I asked them. About 6 companies also all suggested the same mitsi unit so can’t imagine 16kw being needed.  Our 245 m2 property had a 16kw daikin so 150m2 not going to need that large..  I’d double check the sites that are suggesting that.

The after sales experience we had with Fujitsu both inside and outside warranty means they will never see another dime of my money.

Have you read the ducted heatpump guide? I wouldn't have a ducted system without zones, at least north / south. I'm not even sure I'd have a ducted system if I moved house, I might have multi-split or individual units for simpler control. The big problem we have with the way our house is laid out and where vents are is the lounge gets cold when we really only want to cool the bedrooms.

i would be inclined to run it through the middle of the road calcs (i forget who has the free ones). they take window sizing into account. the quick sizing tools don't. otherwise you pay someone to do a proper load calc.

it may be the local guys have better weather knowledge than what's officially recorded. that can happen. eg if your in a warmer spot than where the weather station is.

you probably have seen the pages of horror stories already. imho the install is what makes or breaks it more than the brand.
