I need to buy a new electric garden blower vac. My current Ryobi still works OK but on vacuum cycle it blows the leaves, twigs etc into the fabric collector bag so hard that they abrade the bag. As a result the bag has got holes into in it and all the minced-up leaves blow back out of the bag through the holes and create a hell of a mess. This is hopeless and drives me nuts. I have tried patching the bag from the inside with duct tape but it's no good.

I bought a new bag once but this is now an old model and I'm not sure that I can still get a new bag. Even if I could get a new bag, the same thing will happen because I think it's a design thing.

I haven't looked at new models in the hardware stores yet but I would be very pleased to hear if anyone has any thoughts on this, or experience with a blower vac that avoids my issue. Thanks.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Hi - I have gone through the same scenario as you. When my first bag became useless after only 1 winter season. I live in an avenue with plain trees which have huge, stiff leaves when they fall in autumn.
I made a replacement bag out of an old tent bag and re-used the zip from the original bag. Then when that wore out I went to Bunnings to buy a replacement and was told they were available but no longer came with the zip. I was frustrated as I found the zip usefull for emptying the bag. Than I noticed that the demo model in the shop still had the old style bag attached and asked if I could buy that and was allowed. So that bag is now ending its life.
We are about to move to a new avenue with trees having very small soft leaves so I'm hoping the bag will last a few more years.
I dont recommend this remedy as its very expensive - smiling.
As far as I know Bunningsd still stock replacement bags - no zip but they have a double layer of material so should last a bit longer.
Hope that helps.
