A couple of weeks ago I discovered borer in a couple of the exposed beams in my house. I got an exterminator to check it out, and he didn't find widespread evidence of the borer, so he suspects it is confined (so far) to the few beams with the visible holes. However the extent of the borer holes leads him to suggest that the best option is to replace the beams, as they are decorative not load bearing. Because the beams are varnished, the usual spray won't work, an the holes would have to individually treated.

So now I need to find a builder to quote for the replacement of these beams. Does anyone have a builder in Palmerston North they would recommend?  I prefer to use people that have been recommend than just pick one out of the yellow pages...

I would recommend Gary Wenham. Probably not the cheapest builder in town but he is a top fella and doesn't skimp to save a dollar. He is always busy though so might be a stretch to get him. I'm normally on big sites so only meet builders from the big players that won't bother with smaller jobs.
