Hi managed to get a Roku online - planning on using it as a dedicated NetFlix player :)

Unfortunately I don't seem able to use a (fresh) Prezzy Card (or PayPal) as valid form of payment.

Anyone have insights?

I don't believe Netflix accepts non-reloadable prepaid Visa cards.

I've tried it with the reloadable 'Loaded Everyday' card too

You have 2 options

1) use a credit card
or
2) subscribe to an NZ based service (Lightbox, iTunes, Quickflix etc) so you can get support with your problem from the company in question.

Yup, need a credit/debit card - even then they dont seem to accept all NZ issued cards.... my ANZ Debit was accepted happily tho :)

Using a Prezzy to limit my exposure.
I do something similar for all online services that store CC data.

2) subscribe to an NZ based service (Lightbox, iTunes, Quickflix etc)

Not the point.
Unless I can get those services on my dedicated XBMC/OpenELEC or Roku devices, it's simply not going to happen.
I have a pretty good, low-wattage setup, and would like to keep it that way.

I was under the impression that the Prezzy's were functionally the same.

I may have to hit my bank up to see if they're able to provide a card completely decoupled from my other accounts - just assume that card'll get compromised eventually.

Have you considered a OneSmart card?

I use a virtual card on my OneSmart account and access this via a US Paypal account. Netflix see the Paypal account with my US Freight Forwarder as the street address and PayPal see the virtual OneSmart card.

I'm not sure if I really need the two steps but it works so I won't be changing it.

My bank card works, for now. Working on a backup though, just in case...

Try using a NZ Post loaded for travel card mine works just fine I load it up each month or so and it isn't connected to any other bank account.

This is the ideal - I've tried a "Loaded Everyday", but not the 'Loaded for Travel'.

Just get a second card issued for things like this if you are really paranoid. The thing is, netflix are big enough to have to actually be PCI compliant so will not be storing the card details. You are more likly to be ripped off from smaller merchants that dont actually bother to read the PCI docs and write card numbers and stuff down and do manual processing etc.

All credit cards should be seperate from your money. You have no exposure to risk on a credit card.

I'm surprised the Loaded Every day card doesn't work. Don't forget to sign up for a YouShop address and use it for you postcode.

It's more to guard against my own mistakes than others - taking steps to limit my exposure
