lchiu7: I found the best quality to be on a PC but that isn't the best viewing experience. Second was ITV on Kodi going via HDMI to my big TV. Then the ITV app on a tablet going to the big TV over HDMI.

I didn't want to install the ITV app on my Roku because of having to reset it.

I struggled to get the ITV app on my tablet, downloaded the .apk but could get it to play

Watching AUS vs. ENG on the ITV website on my laptop....the stream stopped half a dozen times near the middle of the game, but eventually came right.

Anyone else have this happen?

It does need some sort of unblock service running to allow access.

Yesterday morning I watched the England/Australia game live of ITV (Google Chrome).

- Laptop (Chrome Browser)via HDMI to Sony TV.
- Getflix.com.au (VPN to Australia server)
- Windows 10
- 2 Degrees Fibre basic plan, (30Mbps download/10Mbps upload)

Quality was OK. Probably on par with SD. No hiccups, Can't complain, ITV was free.

I also watched the AB's playing Georgia, not live. On demand, also through ITV (getflix vpn to Australia). For some reason the ondemand game seemed to be marginally better quality that the live game.

Overall even without the full HD, ITV is really not that bad.
The fast panning shots did not look very bad either.
No ad breaks (except for half time) during the live and ondemand streams also great.

Very happy with this setup. Especially thats its costing me absolutely nothing.

From memory mine had one buffer part way through the All Blacks game, I did reselect the stream and it and it streamed fine from there on, no issues during any other game .. streaming from my PC to Chromecast (100/20 fibre plan with 2 degrees) and a 40 inch TV. I have been enjoying a good quality stream.

NB. Have been using Unblock US

I watched via laptop/HDMI to TV (ITV stream).
I dropped out at about 26 minutes after a couple of pauses before that. I reloaded the webpage and it was fine for the rest of the game.

I was watching on Kodi (ITV) and it was fine for a while. Then it started to freeze so I switched to my phone(!) and that was fine. Since the Android APP was working I switched to my tablet running ITV and connected to the TV over HDMI.

Abut 10 minutes into the second half I retried Kodi, it worked and stayed stable for the rest of the time.

As somebody has noted, small price to pay for free access.

I wasn't sure where to post this but since this thread is about streaming the rugby, it seems as good as any.

The ITV coverage is okay but isn't that sophisticated IMHO in terms of graphics, replays etc.

Was watching some NFL recently on Freeview and say just how much creative the US broadcasters are in their use of graphics.

For example just take a look at this example?

http://www.sportvision.com/media/synthetic-video-0

I am sure something like that could be done for rugby. Of course there are not the same number of breaks in rugby versus NFL to allow time for graphics generation but I am sure with all the stoppages these days for the TMO etc., something inventive could be done.

This is cool but I am not sure how it could be used in a rugby game since the game doesn't feature planned long passes like that.  But you can admire the technology.

Hmmm. That site is so sophisticated it still requires Flash. Sigh.

Well it works in Chrome presumably because Chrome has Flash builtin. But then it also worked in the Windows 10 Edge browser and I don't recall installing Flash at all. Perhaps Microsoft has Flash support in the browser by default?

Just to follow up on my post. I watched the AB game this morning on ITV even though it's on Prime because I prefer the ITV commentary. Grant Nisbet and Justin Marshall can get a bit OTT IMHO.

But that's not the point of this followup. In the post try analysis on ITV, I did notice that they used features similar to this

http://www.sportvision.com/media/feature-tracker-0

to track players during a try, circle key players, show the virtual path to the try line etc. I didn't watch the Sky coverage so I don't know if they did use that technology. Can anybody who watched it confirm?

My feeling is that all broadcasters get the standard live feed and then in their vans they can add graphics and analysis later.

[EDIT]

Well I managed to find an example of this

I stream every match in 720p using a KODI add-on :)

I wrote a post how to do it here:
http://www.matthuisman.nz/2015/10/stream-rugby-world-cup-2015-with-kodi.html

The app creator is really active and always updating the streams.

I have also put all the games / channel / time in the comments at the bottom :)

Flawless. No buffering etc. Really good.

I am happy with the ITV player addon for FreeStreams on Kodi. Not sure it's 720p but it is very acceptable. Especially when I consider I am streaming this content from a lowly Pi2 to my 60" plasma.

the solution was to use Kodi on the FireTV, and use the ITV plugin.
