Hi.
I'm wanting to stream the 2015 rugby world cup in Full HD and watch it on our TV at home. Happy to pay $15-20/month. But once the RWC is over I will cancel it. I expect there are many other geekzoners loooking to stream the RWC too, so thought it worthwhile to start a new topic on geekzone.

I have a FireTV and a Chromecast. There is no PC at home, but as a last resort I can take my own desktop PC from my work office to home.

I am considering using these 3 services
i) ITV android app sideloaded on the FireTV (ITV have the UK rights to the RWC in the UK, it's free to stream and dns4me unblocks it).
Unfortunately, I cannot find the latest version of this app, and it has a touchscreen interface. Touchscreen interfaces can be a bit hit and miss to use on a FireTV. (Yes I have a mouse remote app, but the select function doesn't always work) Can anyone recommend a good remote mouse app for the FireTV? Also how can I download the latest version of the ITV app?

ii) this android app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.livenow.livenowtvplus&hl=en). This supports has access to ITV and many other channels. HD and Chromecast support are available for USD14.95 a month. I tested out the free SD version on the tablet and FireTV, so far it works fine.

iii) or this service http://www.rugbyonlinestream.com/ I have never used them before.  Has anyone used this? It says it is available in all regions, so that would have to include NZ too.

I did try the ITV plugin on Kodi but there is a fault with the plugin so it doesn't work and appears to be no longer under development. I have used livesport.tv in the past, but it doesn't stream the rugby in Full HD.

I think option i) is probably the best option if I can get it to work, and it will also allow my wife to watch a bit of British Telly, which may earn me brownie points so I can watch more of the RWC games.

Cheers

ITV Android APP?  I use the IOS one...but I don't think that its proper HD.  A laptop/computer connected to the Telly?

I'd be very surprised if there was a legal streaming service that would be allowed for NZ (The V8 Supercars for bathurst last year, the official streaming site was available for everyone.....except New Zealand and it explicitly stated this), I'd suspect any streaming site that included the all blacks would have this clause also as Sky have paid for the NZ rights.

I'm going to be pedantic and point out that "legal" is probably the wrong word here. Bypassing geoblocks and watching a stream from another country is not illegal in NZ AFAIK?  So perhaps that would be better worded as:

"I'd be very surprised if there was a supported streaming service that would be allowed for NZ (other than Fan pass? will it offer RWC live streaming?)"

Fanpass (while expensive at $20 per week) does appear to work very well and you'll get access to other sport around the RWC too.

Fanpass doesn't even mention the RWC.

With Fanpass you can get Sky Sport 1, 2, 3 and 4 live, so that would give you all the RWC matches.

I suppose I could sideload the android app to the FireTV to get it on the Telly. Still a bit pricey for the probably 5-10 games I'll end up watching. Would love to watch more but cannot put the family on hold for the sake of the RWC.

does that give the HD the OP wanted?

I forgot about that.  Again requires a PC doesn't it, given there's no Sky app that would load on a fire tv.

It has "720p" quality, which is alright. Not as good as Sky HD but better than any dodgy flash stream you can find online. Not sure about android/fire tv. I've used it on PC and iOS and its worked well so far.

There is an android FanPass app. I've sideloaded plenty of android apps to the FireTV and they work. The issue is getting the interface to function smoothly. There are apps that turn an android tablet into a touchscreen interface for controlling the FireTV. The issue is, I haven't yet had the touchscreen app work 100%.

sorry option ii) should be https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.filmon.android.aff152039Jy&hl=en not the above.

Just had a quick look at it looks like ITV has almost all of the games broadcast. Unsure the quality of them though.

From past experience I would class their service as a long way below HD. In fact sometimes less than good SD, with frequent ad breaks which cannot be skipped. Definitely better than dodgy streams but nowhere near what Fanpass can do. For $20 per week it offers reasonable value IMO.

Grant thanks for that info about ITV.

I was looking for something I could stream via my xbox 360. ITV doesn't have an xbox 360 app but STV (Scottish version) does have an xbox 360 app. From what I can gather STV will be playing/streaming all the games. I assume it would be a simlar quality to ITV but I don't know. I haven't been able to test their website STV player as getflix (which I use for DNS) doesn't currently support it. They also have an android and iOS apps, and amazon app too i think. http://player.stv.tv/
Another possible option.

I tried to stream live channels from the ITV player website on the weekend through a getflix VPN but it was a pretty poor experience, but I'm unsure if that was the VPN or not.
