globe: I still can't believe the I app isn't available yet. They secured rights in late June. That was 2 months ago, absolutely crap service, shameful.

Blame it on apple but if you leave application to the last minute you ain't going to get it approved in time. Very very poor project management.

Or you could blame it on the EPL for not releasing the bidding results in time for a competitor to develop a product in time. The app will come and peeps will forget this argument in time.

I doubt they see it this way and they want a viable business beyond a few trials that end with dissatisfaction. It does seem that the viewer has to find out the problems but I don't see how it could be done any other way.

I wasn't trying to double guess their business plan and I have no objection to entrepreneurs wanting to make money.
My point is it generally not a good idea to alienate your existing customer base by making a (in my opinion poor ) product more difficult to consume compared to its predecessor
There are many ways to test your product before releasing it to the market. Again this displays their lack of concern for the consumer!

I hate the program but I would love to see PLP pitching this product on Dragons Den

I don't feel alienated. The product is not poor. At least not for me. I'm enjoying the versatility of being able to watch a game anywhere in the house now or on the road. The LTE feed I experienced earlier in the week was very good. Something iSky could never deliver.

Can't wait for tonight's entertainment to get underway.

There is no excuse for this as far as I am concerned. You do not sell a product and then not deliver. If your bidding your business model should reflect your needs, and you programme accordingly. If your programme slips you take action.

This was one of their key messages, poor show, and furthermore, poor Comms keeping people up to date with information.

just logged onto the app. they have removed all the games from last week and
give you a button to push for more information.

I don't see a button but rather a banner saying "There are no games available currently" for last week. I suspect it has something do do with this from the FAQ:

How long is the On-Demand window?

The window for On-Demand games will be from kick off to the start of the following round, so basically a week, but in the international breaks it's more like two.

game and dont understand why they have this available?

i know, but hey they secured the rights 8 plus weeks ago, and there would have been planning and lead in prior to that (it wasnt an overnight decision to show prem league footie).

All excuses for poor managemanent and execution of a realtively simple task in my books. EPL was a gret product (albeit expensive) from sky, and things should really get better under circumstances such as this.

Fair enough - I had the same cutout happen to me on a PC about the same time. Here's hopefully a genuine answer for the 150 question:

On a Galaxy Note 10.1 the 150 option looks terrible. However, I have tried the app on an older R22 smartphone and the highest rate available (1200) and even 800 was making it work really hard - some buffering and pausing. The 400 and lower all streamed without interruption. While the 150 picture wasn't that clear you could still read the scores, time was harder to read, but you still got a feel for the play and of course you can hear the sound. If you want to keep track of a game and have cellular coverage that isn't flash I can see that the 150 option makes sense, especially if you want to save data usage and don't mind the drop is frame rate.

For the record, this is what I think the rates give:
400 = Width : 400 pixels; Height : 224 pixels; Frame rate : 29.970 fps
240 = Width : 400 pixels; Height : 224 pixels; Frame rate : 15.000 fps
150 = Width : 400 pixels; Height : 224 pixels; Frame rate : 10.000 fps

Watched Hull this morning and I was streaming nicely at 3000kbps. Remember this stream is a 720 not 1080 so you cannot expect it to be the same as watching on Sky HD - please stop comparing the two - they will never be comparable. If you think you we're mislead file a complaint under the GCA or something and get your money back.

If you are not getting the quality you expect maybe it's your ISP link with the CDN that's the issue - I don't know if that's a real possibility, but it's worth putting it out there. I'm on Vodafone cable in Lower Hutt. There has to be some reason why some like me get great connections and others struggle to get 400kbps.

I've watched two games Sunday morning and one mid week. I'm happy with the quality, but it can be improved if they get rid of the judder which was less noticeable this week.

Perhaps someone that knows what they are doing should trace-route the connection.
So I would give 8.5/10 watching at 8am today getting on average 3000kbps. It did lower at one point because the sound went tinny. Same stats for last week.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Anyway for what it's worth I haven't signed up and refuse to until they sort out the judder in the stream, release more applications or ways to watch (I refuse to watch on a browser, or a phone/tablet - why should I have to change my viewing habits to meet a newer inferior method?) and make the bitrate higher.

PLP have done nothing wrong and have delivered what they said they would (bar the apps and the stutter) so no one could complain about false advertising.

Both Sky and Coliseum have been crap in my opinion; Sky simply didn't bid enough and perhaps undervalued the EPL market and Coliseum released an inferior product without its major benefits (apps) with a shoddy stream.

Anyway I look forward to the improvements Coliseum can bring (assuming that NeuLion are interested) including more ways to connect and watch the stream along with greater bitrates.

Not much more than sky? Where do you get that maths from?

Even if we assume you have sky basic anyway, the sky sports is still around 30 bucks per month, a mysky hdmi is 15 and HD ticket is 10. So on top of sky basic you need to be spending 55 bucks a month to access sport in HD.

By contrast, assuming you already have broadband, then plp is only 150 for the entire season of around 9 months, so around 18 per month. That is a whole lot less than 55.

That's totally a possibility, not all ISPs have Akamai caches (most do), and for the ones that do, they may not be large enough for the demand, or they may not be close enough to the end users. So its VERY likely that there will be a difference of experience between ISPs.

Since SKY moved to Akamai we've noticed a fairly large spike on our cluster when big rugby games are on. Our old Akamai cluster which was replaced a year or two ago would have been unlikely to sustain the demand needed today.
