[EDIT: working with sydney & oregon servers. Something up with NZ one?]

Nah its just Akamai it sends you to the closest server based on the dns servers location, so by changing the dns server you get given a different Akamai caching server.  There is usually a flow on effect when netflix has and issue so it might have already passed the AUS server.

Ahhh - that's a useful piece of "how it works" information for future reference - thanks! :)

Working well for BBC IPlayer on a NowTV box from the UK.

Tried the NowTV movie service but that complained about my location, worked fine with unblock.us

What do you need to debug a service issue? Is a tcpdump sufficient?

Hi openmedia

We currently dont support nowtv, that doesent mean it can't work.

If you want to try to get it to work yourself, you can enable the DNS log on the dns4me site restart your nowtv box and try to open nowtv movies to the point where your geoblocked.

Wait a minute and refresh the DNS logger you should now see all the domains the nowtv box is attempting to connect to, override any suspicious looking ones to the UK server then wait a minute and restart the nowtv box again, if you find the correct domains to override let me know and I'll add it as a service.

Thanks
Jason k

Hi Jason,

I have been experiencing major downtime the past few weeks, both the New Zealand and Germany servers keep dropping out.

They just stop responding. My ip hasn't changed and I can query the Google DNS servers fine.

It wouldn't be such a big deal if the dropouts were a minute or so, but they are getting to the point where they can be out for a while and our VoIP landline drops out.

Germany server is back up, we will be implementing service check that will restart the service if it crashes again, im still investigating the root cause of the issues on the NZ server but it looks like it may be linked to the dynamic dns update system if this is the case it shouldn't effect anyone using a static ip.

Ill keep you guys posted as we squish the bug, sorry for any inconvenience.

Hey, don't sweat it. After all this is a beta and nobody's paying. Problems come with the territory.

Hi Guys,

Quick update there was a permission issue that was breaking our dynamic dns update script, i have resolved it so dynamic dns should now work correctly.

Thanks Stefan for pointing this issue out and helping us resolve it.

Hi guys

Just thought i would let you all know Netflix had a major outage a few hours ago, from experience these outages usually take a few hours to hit the caching servers in Aus and NZ, looks like its there new app again the one used on PS3/4, Xbox and roku so don't be surprised if you get so errors, we will try to do our best to work around it.

There's an post on there twitter feed after a huge number or complaints.

I've just ordered a google Nexus Player. Will be interesting to see if the preloaded Netflix Apps stay active when logging in from an NZ google account...

Hi astrae

Let us know if you have any issues, I'm sure you should be able to sideload apps to it.

Thanks

Will do.

I'm forcing my DNS to use my router and have your host file set as Static DNS entries.  More worried about the NZ google account. There isn't much I can do about that.

Now that DNS4ME has moved to a pay service I am more than happy to pay for it, am I partly retarded in that I am struggling to convert my free account to a paid account?

Cheers
Matt.

Glad you worked it out. PayPal digital goods doesent like having PayPals own 2factor sms authorisation enabled so if anyone gets an incorrect password message when they are typing in there PayPal password correctly you need to temporary disable 2factor SMS authorisation (PayPal's API's and documentation is awful)

I've currently got a problem accessing the Netflix website from a browser (either Firfox or Chrome) on my PC.  I'm connecting fine from Apple TV - using the dns4me DNS settings.  However, on my Windwos PC, with the hosts file modifed, the site won't display.  I just get a blank screen and no error message.  This used to work fine.  However, not at the moment.

The only thing I can think, is that I now have the Norton Internet Security add-in turned on in the browser (in order to use Identity Safe).  Does anyone know if there is an issue with using a modified hosts file and having security software and/or password safes switched on in a browser?

I guess I can do trial and error by switching the Norton add-in back off, but I only get a limited amount of time in the evening to play around.  So any heads up would be most helpful.
