vkjc: ios to tv then? (widening my question parameters)
vkjc: orcon average of 12mbps download have an s3 and an all share cast dongle attached via hdmi to a 2 month old panasonic neo plasma 50 inch.
Procrastination eventually pays off.
Otagolad: For me, PLP is worse that 480p broadcast quality - with high-speed panning the ball/field/player is a blur, there is quite noticeable pixellation (very blocky) and the stream bumps and judders noticeably (remember, I have UFB so speed is not an issue). Sommet sports non-hd coverage looks considerably better IMHO and Sky's HD coverage and ESPN's HD coverage is streets ahead.

Good question - might be worth investing in a HDMI out cable for the iPad. Does anyone have a cable to test this? Considering the iPad is already 2048x1538 it should easily be able to output on a big TV (remembering that the stream is only 720 resolution).vkjc: orcon average of 12mbps download have an s3 and an all share cast dongle attached via hdmi to a 2 month old panasonic neo plasma 50 inch.
I meant to ask you when you were watching on your s3 without streaming it to the dongle - what was the quality like? If the quality on the S3 was equally poor, then your problem is sounding more and more like connectivity somewhere along the pipeline.
I have a S2 so a lower spec phone and my picture quality was very good - again with no motion judder.

This is useful. With the high speed panning I would agree there can be some blurring, with player numbers hard/impossible to work out, although if the camera is tracking the ball that tends to stay small and round for me. There is noticeable macro blocking at times (quite bad on the demo clip, not so bad in other games). We might be getting the same experience with different reactions and that is part of the problem with these degraded services compared to proper HD broadcast - each person has a different set of factors that annoys them and I totally agree there are impairments.
If we aren't looking at the same clip it is also hard or probably impossible to compare. I have seen brief moments when the encoding looked significantly worse than normal. The sad fact is a 720p stream at 3 Mbps isn't really enough for this content and it does seem that the encoding isn't quite as good as other services. Now how is that IOS app going ....

on my s3 it looks good. bit juddery some times but mostly good.

Zurtle: I like the iOS app a lot. I've been critical of PLP but credit where it's due. Like @Ardrigh said on the Twitters, now we have to pressure mobile data providers to lift caps to cope with it. (Reckon there's a Tui billboard in that.)
Lust: PLP have said on twitter in reply to a question on data useage for a game on ipad that it runs at 3000kbs. 2.5 gb per game. They said iPhone runs much lower but couldn't confirm numbers.

There is not one set bitrate for either the iPad or iPhone. It uses the adaptive streaming like if you were on "best available" on your computer.
Just AirPlayed to the Apple TV from my iPhone 5. Started off on a low bitrate ~800kbps, settled on what i think was 1600, then just before I had to stop cause mum wanted to watch deal or no deal I'm pretty sure it went up to 3000 as I could hear a difference in the audio.

True, I meant to write up to 3000 as they had stated. I really hope we do get a 4500. Just tried the NFL games pass app through AirPlay and it looks much better and still runs perfectly. The app itself, though similar has much more functionality. CC when pressed on NFL does bring up closed captions.
Kim587: I think Zurtle is probably aware of that, but there will always be occasions when it would be fun to be able to use 3G, like when you're commuting or on holiday.
