This is the last weekly top 10 chart. I am going to post a monthly top 20 chart from now on.

Each night between 10 and 11pm, I will check the top 10 films on the Apple TV app. Points will be awarded as in the Formula 1 scoring -  i.e. 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.

It is possible for a film to score a maximum 750 points in November (1st to 30th inclusive), but it would have to be in the #1 spot every night for that month, which is highly unlikely to happen.

I'm a bit of a stats nerd, so hopefully the chart will be somewhat interesting to you as well.

I've often wondered why filmmakers insist on re-making classic or successful original films, and which, are far inferior to their counterparts (IMO) and fail dismally at the box-office, losing producers and studios millions of dollars... yet they keep doing it.

Here are a few that come to mind, alongside the original with their Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience ratings:

Get Carter (2000) : Get Carter (1971)

The Pink Panther (2006) : The Pink Panther (1963)

Ben Hur (2016) : Ben Hur (1959)

Conan the Barbarian (2011) : Conan the Barbarian (1982)

Psycho (1998) : Psycho (1960)

Planet of the Apes (2001) : Planet of the Apes (1968)

I'm sure that there are many more that failed to get the box-office tills ringing, but you get my drift.

Nothing else to report, and it's my monthly club day, where I get to sink a few beers with some of my old mates 😁.

           Current Models Pictured Above.

I have been looking at adding some speakers to my lounge room for improved sound. My wife and I watched The Roses (2025) last night, and used the TV audio, which is the only option that I have at the moment. Whilst the film wasn't an audio extravaganza, such as some action films, I still thought that it would be better with an external sound option. I have thought about getting a Dolby Atmos/DTS:X compatible soundbar, which would cost me $1500 or above. But while I have been searching for information on the new Apple TV 4K, I had my interest piqued when I read about the Apple Homepod (RRP $526) and Homepod mini (RRP $179) smart speakers. The Homepod 3 and Homepod mini 2 are expected to be announced this year.

Apple users (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K) are the targeted users, as they seamlessly link up with any of Apple's devices, You can control speakers and devices by asking Siri (Apple's digital assistant). If you want to go the whole hog, then you can have the Homepod control almost everything in your house (added expense, of course). Add a second unit, and you can set them to work together as a stereo system. The Homepod can output spatial audio, but according to Apple, it's not supported on the mini. With the Homepod, Apple Store's movies encoded with Dolby Atmos improve your movie enjoyment when paired with an Apple TV 4K. Both models have 360 degree sound output, so imagine how good it would sound with two speakers. You can place the larger speaker anywhere in your room and it will automatically calibrate itself. Users can have a speaker in every room of their house, all playing different audio.

Finally, all Apple Homepods require a continuous connection to a power outlet to function. They do not have internal batteries, and are not designed for portable use in the same way a typical Bluetooth speaker is. If unplugged they will turn off.

HomePod mini: The HomePod mini uses a non-detachable USB-C cable and comes with a 20W power adapter that must be plugged into an electrical outlet.

"Portable" Workarounds: While not officially supported as portable devices, some users have powered the HomePod mini using compatible USB-C power banks for temporary, unofficial portability around the house or in places with an available power bank and Wi-Fi source (as they still need Wi-Fi).

Functionality: The HomePod's design is for a stationary, always-on "home hub" experience, providing continuous access to Siri, music, and HomeKit automations.

The beauty of owning the Homepod Smart Speaker, is that I don't have to buy an expensive receiver as well as external speakers. I think that the Apple Homepod Smart Speakers could be just what I am looking for, but I may as well wait for the new models to appear (before Christmas, I hope).
