Ok so Ars vs Bur was a fail.

Now watching the Liverpool game. Feel the judder has got much better vs last week.

When it streams well it streams really well - but every few minutes it seems to drop to 144 ish resolution for 5 or so seconds. I've tried different devices but same issue.

Hopefully something that will improve.

Watching highlights of EPL on the android app and there's this annoying glitch where the pause and rewind graphic remains on the screen for far too long. Picture not a patch on Sky Now.

So where are we at with chromecast support?

https://help.sparksport.co.nz/what-devices-can-i-watch-spark-sport-on

Still doesn't limit to just the newer generations..

So suggests 30fps will be around for some time still?

Well I just tried KAYO and it is MUCH better....almost Sky broadcast quality on our VDSL copper line.......I just cancelled my Spark early bird payment and that can now fund Kayo for the next 2-3 months.

I am just uncertain if I am going to be listening to Aussie commentators or if there is an international team that do the World Cup games.....anyways at least I can watch the games without the juddery action making me feel like spewing up!

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

The pity is, that on F1, before this frame rate issue, F1 was better than Sky broadcast quality.

Issues are one thing but I hope they improve their support too. Going to be a lot more noise during the RWC.

Do not these streaming servers present a manifest of various stream rates that the client can select based on buffer/error states, if so could the server not identify clients that will only support 30fps and adjust the manifest offering appropriately? Surely there must be some detail gleened from the client at connection initiation that allows identification of the clients ability.

Nope. Sky Sport is broadcast at 1080i/25 interlaced just like HD broadcasts in every PAL country in the world (incl all other broadcasters in NZ)
