The only reason why I registered with Spark Sport is for EPL. I have now watched 2 weeks worth of stream, both live and not live, and have been very happy. I went out and bought a fairly cheap Android media player, installed the Spark Sport app, and have been more than happy with the picture quality. I have had none of the issues that other people have been complaining about. Smooth movement of both player and ball, no juttering, no shadowing, all in all excellent.

I especially like the fact that you can start the broadcast even whilst the game is still live, something that I couldn't do before.

@djrm What Android media player did you buy?

SmartVu X. I was just going to buy a chromecast and use the app on my phone but I quite fancied seeing the freeview streaming as I really want to get rid of Sky at some point (we live behind a hill and aerial reception has never been good). It also has Chromecast built in.

Spark Sport head Jeff Latch was on the AM show this morning

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/rugby-world-cup-2019/2019/08/rugby-world-cup-2019-spark-warns-customers-to-check-hdmi-cables.html

Unfortunately, the above story and video, doesn't show the full interview.

A couple of things i did hear from the interview, and people who have signed up can correct me if I'm wrong\misheard

1) If you can get the App on your TV, you can't register through the App on the TV, that's has to be done separately. Although for some strange reason the TV App doesn't and can't tell you that.

2) During this morning's AM show, they ran a poll on who had signed up for the Spark sport for the RWC...the last poll i heard had 90% of people hadn't signed up. Meaningless? maybe.

Some of those 90% are most likely expecting it to be on Sky ..

Yes, you can't sign up on the app, only webpage, but not really a biggy.

I wouldn't have expected a lot of people to sign up, they will probably leave till the last minute?

That will because if you sign up through an app,  the Store (apple/android) clip the ticket on the way through,

I suspect their T+Cs explicitly forbid directing users to alternative sign ups (that are outside of their ability to impose a fee on the transaction)

Maybe. Myself, I'm not expecting it to be on Sky, but I know pool games will be delayed on TVNZ\Duke. And that's fine with me. The AB's are the only team I'll follow, and the only pool game that really matters, is the first AB's match against South Africa. I suspect that game will determine the pool, and if I want to watch it, i can either go to the pub and have a jug and watch it, or watch it delayed. Either way, that's cheaper than paying Spark.

And with the Semi's and Final being live on TVNZ\Duke, why would I pay Spark to watch it?

For the All Blacks there will be at least 4 games (pool play) but likely to be 7 (pool play, QFinal, SFinal, Bronze Final/Final).  With an RWC subscription you see those games live with no play-interruption ads.  You also get to watch any other game of your choice.  Personally I will be following pool play results and any interesting non-All-Blacks games that affect the All Blacks standings.  The subscription cost is trivial because it is a one-off.  Spark Sport is a serious contender to prove streaming video as a viable medium that can scale to serve large numbers of viewers in NZ.  RWC19 will make or (possibly) break the business.

Following the feedback and the performance of SS so far (watched with keen interest being an F1 fan) I suspect the AB v SA game will result in all other AB games being free and live on Duke. - Sky GO have constantly had issues when it comes to prime events as well and I cant see SS even getting close.

Pesimistic?  Yes, but just my .02 cents and hope to be proved wrong

I read on twitter from an unofficial source that it's end of next week, I have asked for confirmation.

The biggest issue I have with Spark Sport since it's release is the incredibly poor communication that has flowed when there have been issues.

In my view the responsible thing would have been to get in front of the issues, communicate clearly the reasons for specific changes, which devices were affected, what options customers have and stay in communication. Saves the level of angst a lot of people have felt, and people drawing their own (often incorrect) conclusions. In my view this is a part of their business they need to significantly lift their game on.

Letting it leak out a little bit at a time via CSR's on twitter and support chats is amateur hour.

Agreed. I can sort of understt the issues and I gave them some leeway at launch but now that they have downgraded the stream quality support was unable to offer even a partial refund to show good faith. I get they don't have to but they could have kept my respect if they did.
