I have the theatrical editions of LOTR and The Hobbit. I agree with you that the extended editions are a bit of a grind and don’t really add much to the story.

As usual, January is a bit of a quiet period as far as new releases go in the Apple Store, and things don't normally pick up until March.
Plenty of potentially great films to be released in 2026, so by May/June we should be in full swing again
Personally, I'm looking forward to The Odyssey, Disclosure Day, Dune: Messiah, Avengers: Doomsday and the child in me ... Toy Story 5.

Anyone looking forward to the third Avatar film?, which is due for general release in NZ cinemas on December 19th.
Avatar: Fire and Ash runs for 3:19 including credits, which is a long time between rest room visits for some people. I'm not sure how well this film will perform at the Box-Office, I can't see it making well over US$2 Billion like the first two and with a reported budget of US$400 Million it needs to do well.
I have the original films in my library and I enjoyed both of them, mainly because they look and sound amazing on my home set up. I found the special effects to be the real winner for James Cameron, and I expect that the latest offering will have lots of new innovations that will wow audiences. But how long can the eye candy keep audiences going back for more?. There are two more releases planned, so it will be interesting to see if people are still going to flock to the cinema in great numbers.
I really hope that Avatar will continue to be a successful franchise, right up to, and including the fifth film. I will definitely watch "Fire and Ash" at home when it get's a digital release, then I can pause it to take a bathroom break whenever I need to 😁
Well, Avatar: Fire and Ash has done okay at the worldwide box-office, but nowhere near as well as James Cameron was hoping. You would think that a film that has taken over US$1.3 billion and counting would make it's director and studio extremely happy, but not 20th Century Studios or Mr. Cameron.
It looks like "Fire & Ash" will take somewhere between US$1.5 and US$1.8 billion, which would see a good profit, but due to the high expectations of the studio and director, the fourth and fifth films may be canned. Nothing has been decided yet, and I hope that the last two films will go ahead.
Whatever is decided, I am looking forward to seeing this third film in the franchise once it gets a digital release, and be able to look back on a wonderful movie trilogy that I will rewatch again and again.

I thought that I would let you know how two Homepods 2 paired with an Apple TV 4K is working out for me after I dismantled my Atmos Home Cinema system due to wanting more room in my small Man Cave.
Just to be clear, a true Atmos system can't be beaten. I mean an AV Receiver, right, left and centre speakers, two or more ceiling speakers and two rear speakers and, of course, a decent subwoofer.
It has taken me a while to correctly hook up my Homepods. Pairing with the Apple TV 4K, making sure I had my Apple TV 4K connected to the correct HDMI port that supports eARC and turning on the eARC in my Apple TV 4K settings, which I hadn't found until I started to get some popping sounds when I was playing a movie from my TV's Apple TV app.
Anyhow, everything is working fine now and I am pleased with the audio coming from the Homepods. Bass is excellent; enough for my taste at least. I do miss the rear surrounds, but the front stage is excellent, with the occasional sound reaching each side of my ears, and dialogue is very clear and has the option to be enhanced in the Apple TV 4K settings. Until I got things set up correctly, I was going to buy a JBL Bar 1000MK2 Atmos/DTS:X soundbar, which has many good reviews, plus favourable comments from our own ARIKIP, and is priced at $1198 at Noel Leeming at the moment, $500 off RRP. That would have meant that I moved the Homepods into my living room, but I have put that idea on hold, for now.
It would be nice if Apple gave me the option to add two Homepod mini's as surround speakers, hopefully that may come in the future

Thought the Rambo franchise had done it's dash? Well, you're wrong!
Sisu / Sisu: Road to Revenge director Jalmari Helander has commenced production on John Rambo.
Set years before the events of First Blood, presumably during John J. Rambo's formative time serving in Vietnam, John Rambo — which is shooting across Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi in Thailand — is a real passion project for Finnish action filmmaker Helander. In a director's statement accompanying the new poster, Helander writes: "When I was 11, I saw ‘First Blood’ for the first time, and it changed my life. Rambo wasn’t just a film to me — it stayed with me growing up and was a defining influence on why I wanted to become a filmmaker. As we begin production on the origin of John Rambo, we’re going back to the beginning. This is Rambo stripped down, raw, and real — a survival story about endurance, persistence, and lost innocence. It’s an honor to shape this next chapter with deep respect for the character and the legacy, and to bring audiences the start of John Rambo’s journey."
Teaser Poster:

If the Sisu films are anything to go by, then this Rambo film promises to be the bloodiest yet.
