Lots of catalogue titles reduced to $4.99 and $7.99 today (Feb. 4th). Too many for me to list here. A sprinkling of recent titles as well.

Cheap Charts

Sorry guys! Just went to buy this film on my NZ Apple Store, and it's priced at $14.99!

Once again Cheap Charts price doesn't match the price that we can get it for. I should have checked the app before posting.

I will check before posting next time. Sorry once again.

It still grinds my gears that CheapCharts gets my hopes up at finally buying 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' for $4.99...but it's always $14.99.

I watched The Amateur yesterday, it's a decent revenge movie and I enjoyed it. I used my paired Apple Homepods Gen 2 as my audio option. The Homepods certainly deliver an excellent front sound stage with good bass output, but I miss the surround experience that my old Dolby Atmos set up provided. I don't want to clutter my small Man Cave with cables and speakers again, so I decided to search on the web for the best stand alone soundbar options, and I finally settled on this....the Sonos Arc Ultra Soundbar

It was a close thing between the Sonos and the Sony Bar 9, I also looked at the Samsung and JBL offerings, but they came with a subwoofer and rear speakers, which is something I wish to avoid if possible. The Sonos is expensive, but I'm hoping for a sale to pop up in the near future, so I can wait (but not too long). I also like the cylindrical look of the Arc Ultra.

I spent all day scouring You Tube and other websites. Watching and reading many reviews and opinions before deciding on the Arc Ultra, which rocks a new sound technology; Sound Motion.

"Sonos acquired its Sound Motion technology from Mayht, (a Dutch start-up specializing in innovative transducer technology) in 2022 for approximately $100 million. This technology, originally known as Heart Motion, allowed Sonos to develop compact, high-output drivers, first featured in the Sonos Arc Ultra to deliver significantly deeper bass in a smaller form factor."

The majority of reviewers were impressed with the bass output of the soundbar and thought that most people wouldn't need to add the optional subwoofer. They were split on whether or not users would need to add rear wireless speakers, which are also optional and is something that I am open to adding at a later date, if need be.

There are a couple of things that I would have liked to see included on the Arc Ultra. It doesn't have any HDMI pass through ports, nor does it support the DTS  sound format, which is prevalent on a lot of Blu-ray movie discs.

I have four HDMI inputs on my TV, so that isn't a biggie as I will have the soundbar connected to my TV through the eARC port. Still, It would have been nice to have maybe two more HDMI  inputs.

99% of my movie watching is through the Apple TV which also doesn't support DTS audio, but may do so when the 4th Generation Apple TV 4K is finally released.

It's going to be an expensive way to go, especially if I decide to add the wireless Sonos ERA 300 smart surround speakers as well. But, as they say, "you can't take it with you" 😁.

So which soundbar did I end up getting, The JBL Bar 1000MK2 or the Sonos Arc Ultra?

Neither, I ditched them both at the last minute and purchased the Samsung HW Q990F on sale from Harvey Norman. Now... the two week wait for it to arrive 😁

Thanks. Both have been released in 4k, holy grial more recently. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to check manually for each, every week or day. And I don't want to buy the HD versions.

if u buy the HD version u should automatically get the 4k version when they upgrade it.

Thanks. Yeah it's just that they might never do it, and i already have the bluerays. Having said that, since they are some of my favorites movies i should get the uhd discs, now that i think of it.

For the record, i see conan the barbarian was upgraded to dolby atmos but still in HD. I wonder if this means they have the new 4k transfer and then downscaled it to sell.

Also, I just checked and Holy grial and Life of brian have upgraded sound to dolby atmos. Life of brian 4k edition has not been released yet and they are not containing atmos soundtrack.

Those titles are not showing as Dolby Atmos on my app, but there have been several listings lately that have listed HD/Atmos, but still play in HD/Dolby Digital 5.1 and haven't been upgraded to 4K as they were supposed to be. I think that there is a glitch somewhere in the Apple Store system
