ANACONDA (2025, Adventure/Comedy, 99 mins. M) • ❇️iTunes Extras • Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos/Dolby Digital 5.1 [Buy - $29.99: Rent - $24.99]

THIS IS NOT A REBOOT. It is an entirely original comedy, inspired by the cinematic 'classic' "Anaconda", that features Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd), who have been best friends since they were kids and always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation.

THE HOUSEMAID (2025, Drama/Thriller, 131 mins. R16) 4K SDR/Dolby Digital 5.1 [Buy - $29.99: Rent - $24.99]

THE HOUSEMAID is a wildly entertaining thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, based on the best-selling book. From director Paul Feig, the film plunges audiences into a twisted world where perfection is an illusion, and nothing is as it seems. Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous -- a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters' closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.

Martin Scorsese's classic film Taxi Driver (1976) has just joined the $4.99 bargain bin.

Dolby Vision

Sorry guys! Just went to buy this film on my NZ Apple Store, and it's priced at $14.99!

Once again Cheap Charts price doesn't match the price that we can get it for. I should have checked the app before posting.

I will check before posting next time. Sorry once again.

I was browsing the app this morning and under Limited-time-offers was Taxi Driver at $4.99, but when I clicked on it and tried to buy it, it was $14.99. Someone is not doing their job properly and that same person may be the reason that many titles haven't been upgraded in the NZ Apple Store 😡

Recently, Jurassic Park was upgraded to Dolby Vision/Atmos, and as my wife was going out to visit a friend, I thought that today would be a good day to see what it looks and sounds like.

It also gave me the opportunity to try out my new Samsung soundbar, and get a chance to wind the volume up and set the subwoofer level etc.

The film is one of my all time favourites, and I have watched it many times over the years on physical media, but today was the first time I've seen it on digital streaming. For the most part the DV transfer was very good, but I did think that a couple of scenes were a little washed out (could be my TV settings). Overall though, I was very happy with it.

The DA audio played through the soundbar really put a smile on my face... it was awesome! I started off at 25% volume, but I soon had it turned down to 18% and that was more than enough for my small Man Cave. I can't imagine how loud it would be at 100%. So, I had a great time experimenting and watching one of my all-time favourite movies.

I'd just like to mention a recent addition to the Apple TV 4K... the enhanced dialogue option. I have tried it on several films whose dialogue was a little hard to hear, and it works really well, no more having to turn on subtitles because I can't hear what the actors are saying. You'll find it in the Video/Audio section. I didn't need it turned on for Jurassic Park, but I turned it on anyway, just because it's there 😁

For anyone who is thinking of getting a sound system for their movie watching, and don't want to go through the trials and tribulations of a separates system... I can definitely recommend the Samsung HW Q990F soundbar, which includes a subwoofer and rear speakers.

Jurassic Park is available to buy from the NZ Apple Store for $14.99, but has been as low as $4.99 in the past.

Reading reviews on the soundbar, it seems that it gets a slight upgrade each year.

The 990B was the first model released in 2022, followed by the "C", "D" and the current model "F". Samsung will release the "H" model sometime in 2026.

The "F" model has an upgraded and more compact subwoofer, maybe this year will get an upgrade to the bar itself, or maybe improved rear speakers.

Good news! I was waiting for it to show 4K/Atmos before I posted it.

I loaded my Master and Commander purchase which has also got HD/Atmos on the app page, but unfortunately it's still HD/Dolby Digital 5,1 🙄

Quentin Tarantino films, although highly rated by some people, just don't seem to have widespread movie love among film fans. Personally, I have enjoyed all of the Tarantino films, with Kill Bill 1 & 2 being my favourites.

The films were originally filmed and produced as one four hour plus movie, but executive producer Harvey Weinstein suggested that the films be cut into two parts. And that is the way that I have viewed them.

Recently Lionsgate released Tarantino's reconstituted version Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair in US cinemas.

The two films have been sewn together to make for a seamless experience. Some cuts and additions have been made and reportedly for the better. An example is the blood spattered fight scene in a Tokyo night club which were partly in black and white to appease censors, are now in full colour. Tarantino says that there are no plans to release the "Whole Bloody Affair" on disc or digital, but I, for one, hope that he changes his mind. I'm sure that Lionsgate will want to maximise profits.

My prayer has been answered. Lionsgate are releasing Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair on digital, and it will be available from the NZ Apple Store on Tuesday 17 February [Pre-order - $24,99].

I was hoping for a 4K release, but the Pre-order is only stating 1080p/Dolby Digital 5.1. A Blu-ray and 4K physical release will happen later this year.

So which soundbar did I end up getting, The JBL Bar 1000MK2 or the Sonos Arc Ultra?

Neither, I ditched them both at the last minute and purchased the Samsung HW Q990F on sale from Harvey Norman. Now... the two week wait for it to arrive 😁

Congrats,im sure you will be impressed once setup in your home theatre. Be interested to hear what you think of that more compact and sealed dual driver subwoofer they use vs the larger ported single driver previous models they used since day dot. JBL have also gone the dual 8" driver single box sub route as well with their flagship model. I do wish that they allowed the option to add another wireless Samsung subwoofer to the mix. The rear speakers are pretty discrete especially when wall mounted. The Samsung bar itself is a solid and heavy affair. They can be wall mounted...like under a wall mounted TV but i assume that would affect the upfiring atmos speakers they have....so probably better on a nice AV cabinet...as close to the front edge as possible. Anyways...congrats again and look forward to your thoughts on it when it turns up.
