So which soundbar did I end up getting, The JBL Bar 1000MK2 or the Sonos Arc Ultra?
Neither, I ditched them both at the last minute and purchased the Samsung HW Q990F on sale from Harvey Norman. Now... the two week wait for it to arrive 😁
Congrats,im sure you will be impressed once setup in your home theatre. Be interested to hear what you think of that more compact and sealed dual driver subwoofer they use vs the larger ported single driver previous models they used since day dot. JBL have also gone the dual 8" driver single box sub route as well with their flagship model. I do wish that they allowed the option to add another wireless Samsung subwoofer to the mix. The rear speakers are pretty discrete especially when wall mounted. The Samsung bar itself is a solid and heavy affair. They can be wall mounted...like under a wall mounted TV but i assume that would affect the upfiring atmos speakers they have....so probably better on a nice AV cabinet...as close to the front edge as possible. Anyways...congrats again and look forward to your thoughts on it when it turns up.
It actually turned up only two days after I ordered it 😁
I have placed the bar at the front of my AV cabinet. I had nowhere to put the rear speakers, so I bought a pair of speaker stands from PB Tech. They are Brateck stands, very premium looking made from wood and metal and a perfect height for my seating position. I find the rears to be quite loud, but I do have them quite close (recommended by Samsung).
The subwoofer is a compact square design, much smaller than the "D" series woofer, but it can really rumble, more than enough for me.
I have watched at least one film per day since I got the soundbar, it just makes movie watching so much more enjoyable with a decent surround system. I decided to put it through its paces by watching the DV/DA upgraded Apple Store version of Jurassic Park, and it sounded amazing. I could really hear the T-Rex coming from a long way off, and the heavy rain completely immersed me. I started watching the film with the volume at 25/100, but I soon had to turn it down to 18. My Man Cave is quite small, I think the system would perform well in a large room as well.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase; soundbars have come a long way since my last one, which was a Sony stand alone model with no sub.
Watching Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves this afternoon. It will be the first 4K disc that I have watched since getting the soundbar.
