NZ cinemas are gearing up for the Easter weekend with a couple of family friendly animated films.
Released yesterday (March 26th) was Pixar's latest offering; Hoppers. This time Pixar are dabbling with the Sci-Fi genre. The plot follows an animal-loving college student who transfers her mind into a lifelike robotic beaver to communicate with animals and save their habitat from human destruction, inadvertently starting an uprising in doing so.
This film being part of the Disney Universe, will not be released on physical media in NZ, but I find that their digital releases are some of the best out there.
The sequel to 2023's Super Mario Bros. Movie is releasing on April 1st. Titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, The story is set after the events of the first film with Mario and Luigi, and their friends adventuring into outer space where they meet Princess Rosalina and face off against Bowser and his son, Bowser Jnr. The talented voice cast includes... Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach) Charlie Day (Luigi) and Jack Black (Bowser).
Expect both films to be available in digital format from the NZ Apple Store around late May/June.

Apple have released tvOS 26.4, compatible with all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models released since 2015. NB: Some tvOS features are limited to newer Apple TV models.
If your Apple TV hasn't automatically updated, you can install it manually. To update your Apple TV, open the Settings app on the device, navigate to System → Software Updates, and select Update Software.
Genius Browse:
Apple added a new "Genius Browse" section to the Apple TV app on tvOS 26.4. Genius Browse is a content discovery feature that provides recommendations for movies across multiple suggested categories. Suggestions vary based on content preferences, and the options are updated regularly.
Continuous Audio Connection:
Apple says tvOS 26.4 fixes an issue with audio playback on Apple TV 4K that can occur when sound transitions between programs with different formats. Specifically, there is a new "Continuous Audio Connection" setting in the Settings app, under Video and Audio → Audio Format → HDMI Output. As I have my Apple TV 4K connected to a soundbar, continuous audio connection was turned on automatically when the update was installing. But, best to check yours to be sure.
"Apple TV uses a Dolby MAT connection for glitch-free playback across formats," reads Apple's description of the setting. "Older receivers may indicate an Atmos connection, but original mixes will not be modified."
Subtitle Styling:
You can now change the style of subtitles/captions while you are watching content in the Apple TV app and other apps that use the Apple TV's default video player, without needing to open the Settings app. You can adjust the size and appearance of the subtitles, opt for subtitles to have a transparent background, and so forth. To turn on subtitles from the video player, look for the speech bubble button.
tvOS 26.4 finally removes the preinstalled iTunes Movies app from the Apple TV, with all content now found in the Apple TV app.
