RunningMan:

@Oblivian can you reconfirm the stream specs you get for From please? What client, and does it fit with the above posts?

Ah. So, heres the thing..

I could.. If it was still was working.  But as of today the method I was using (ahem MH addin) has now been caught up with the changes. And left us now with only live capability.

Beforehand it was only reporting 720p (i see a default profile there of 768x which would fit that. And definitely only AAC stereo offers.

Tonight the Fire TV app starts, shows the blue screen for a minute, then crashes, going back to the home menu.

And the memory of what you have watched is getting worse. Opened the app last night to see it flags a new episode of From to be watched. Nope, that doesn't come out for another couple of days, but it has forgotten the last 8 episodes I watched and dumped me back in the middle of the previous season. Nice.

Same across multiple other series - why should you have to log in to their system if it won't remember where you are up to? The previous app and system could, as does every other streaming service available. Why can they not get such a simple and fundamental thing sorted out?

And for those watching From that want to see it in better than 432p resolution from 1997, it looks like it's now being broadcast on Duke. First 3 episodes on Duke tonight.

EDIT: And looks like e4 next Saturday, so on broadcast TV 5 days after available for streaming. Worth waiting 5 days not to have to watch a hot blurry mess.

much the same here. it always starts up from where i was weeks ago.

the weird thing is it seams to update after you have it open for a while. suddenly the shows are marked watched. this probably ties in with their new setup of not having to log in. frankly its a pita, i would rather just log in and have it update as it loads, rather than have it update while your using it.

I haven't seen a change of image quality on ATV, however the audio has reduced from 5.1 to 2.1.

Still buggy going to live TV or selecting episodes. Have to keep restarting app.

@enserf I don't recall coming across anything with 5.1 audio previously through an Apple TV on TVNZ. Only ever 2.0.

I know it did before the app "update"- my chair is right next to one of the rear speakers. Now the sub still kicks in and I only hear from the front speakers.

Maybe it wasn't true 5.1, but it certainly changed the audio format for the worse.

Tonight the Fire TV app is crashing before it even shows the profile selection.

What a low quality piece of crap software, folks.

I have cleared cache and data for the app, and it started ok three times since then.

It could mean corrupt information, which the app should have cleared.

Similar problem setting up a Firestick 4K a few days ago and updating the TVNZ app. No crash just blue screen and no progress after start. Uninstall, restart, restart, reinstall, solved. I expect it had some ancient data it could not deal with. Clear cache might have been faster..

Only ever been max 720 and AAC (2.0). which is why broadcast has been the superior option. My system was capable of applying NEO6 effects to fake upscale.

This back end change has opened up the number of video and audio options. With 1080 and E-AC3 now possible. But not everything has caught up it would seem.
