Something for Arnie fans:

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Chuck Russell's Eraser (1996) with a new 4K Blu-ray release, which is scheduled to arrive on the US market on June 16th.

Hopefully this means a free 4K upgrade for people who already have this title in their library.

Special Features and Technical Specs:

  • NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE ORIGINAL CAMERA NEGATIVE
  • DOLBY VISION/HDR PRESENTATION OF THE FILM
  • DOLBY ATMOS AUDIO TRACK, plus additional options
  • Reinventing the Modern Action Hero - The Evolution of Arnold - Featurette
  • '90s Action Thriller Reimagined - Featurette
  • Optional English SDH, Spanish, and French subtitles for the main feature

Thank you for this news, I'm looking forward to it. Whilst not a huge blockbuster I always thought Eraser was under-rated. I expect the audio upgrade alone will be fantastic.

It's a bit boring being an Apple Store/iTunes film collector at the moment. No real super deals such as the Back to the Future Trilogy for $9.99 which was available a while ago, and most of the newer titles have still to drop below my usual purchasing threshold of $10. I do have a decent wish list, which hasn't offered me any good deals lately.

There are many films on the horizon that are on my radar, and I hope to take my Apple Store/iTunes titles up to, and beyond, the 700 mark this year (674 at present).

The ease and selection of buying films by double clicking on the side button of my iPhone, and receiving the purchase immediately is a joy, compared to the hassle of trying to get physical media titles that are only available from overseas. I was devastated when Disney announced that they weren't releasing any more physical media in Australasia as I was still buying discs at the time. This meant that all of the Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, Fox and Disney titles new and old (which is a massive library when added together), weren't going to be available unless I paid the high import prices. I could have subscribed to Disney Plus, but I would not have access to their films if/when I cancelled my subscription, plus the Disney titles are available in the Apple Store/iTunes two or three months before being added to Disney Plus.

Now, all of that is forgotten, and I can get the Disney related titles from Apple at a fraction of the price that I was paying for disc based media. All in glorious Dolby Vision-Atmos, and not needing any storage space in my Man Cave 😁

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu: Directed by Jon Favreau NZ Cinemas & IMAX 21 May 2026.

The Mandalorian and Grogu, also known as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, is an upcoming American film co-written by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Noah Kloor. Produced by Lucasfilm and set to be distributed by Walt Disney Studio's Motion Pictures. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and a continuation of the Disney+ television series The Mandalorian (2019–2023). Pedro Pascal stars as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian alongside Jeremy Allen White and Sigourney Weaver. In the film, which is set following the fall of the Galactic Empire, Djarin and his apprentice Grogu are enlisted by the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt, in exchange for information on a target.

Films generally become available on digital platforms (VOD) 45–60 days after their theatrical release. While the traditional window was 90 days, many studios now use a 45-day window for digital purchase. Popular films may stay in theaters longer, while smaller or underperforming movies can appear on digital platforms in as little as 14-30 days

Sometimes, when I post a NZ new release that is in HD or 4K SDR; I look on the US Apple/iTunes store to see if they have a better version than we have.

Not always, but often, the US release will have Dolby Vision and/or Dolby Atmos on board. This is the situation with the recently released The Drama. To really rub salt into the wound, the US release also has iTunes Extras. It's possible that it will be upgraded at a later date, but I'm not over confident that it will.

The John Wick quadrilogy are all Dolby Vision-Atmos in the US, and the 4-Movie Collection is on sale for $14.99 at the moment

At the risk of being too repetitive, I will say again, that until Apple/iTunes stores worldwide are a level playing field; Digital streaming will not be taken seriously by ardent physical media fans, and I can totally understand why many PM collector's will not let go of their hobby.

Fight Club (1999, Drama/Thriller, 139 mins. R18) has been upgraded to Dolby Vision.

Fight Club has now been downgraded to 1080p. Hopefully it will return to 4K soon. Someone must have pulled the trigger a little early 😁

At the risk of having my fingers burnt again, I have the new 4K Digital release date for Fight Club (1999).

The Digital release date is May 12th (tomorrow). The physical media release will have 4K HDR10/DTS-HD MA 5.1 and will be available in the US in SteelBook format on the same date.

Expect the Digital release to have Dolby Vision/Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 on board.
