ckc:
Gamepass has apps on XBMC and Plex. It's not that people won't develop them for PLP, because God knows there's enough people in other countries signing up to it too. It's just that PLP won't let anyone.

I've got Gamepass via the Plex app on my Roku and it's brilliant. If they did this for PLP it would be awesome, and logical. The 25% discount tipped me over the edge to sign up but I am still a bit skeptical about the product.

I know isn't really on topic, but thought I would share my concerns.

I just had an issue logging into their system, so I thought I'd reset my password. From the sign in page I clicked "Retrieve my password"

Retrieve my password

I entered in my email address and I got a nice little message saying saying that my request had been sent – great!

Password retrieving request sent

I opened up my email and looked for the email and there it was. My password in all of its plain text glory:

Plain text password in email

Which makes me wonder how they are storing passwords! They're obviously either stored in plain text or using some reversible "encryption".

You're concerned that the password retrieval system is working?

Did they actually send you your current password or a new password - if it's the latter then it doesn't really matter that much as long as you change your password quickly.

If they sent you your current password I would be more concerned that they are sending real passwords in plain text which potentially if found could be used to work out what other passwords you use are.

Have they reset your password and sent that as plain text or have they actually sent your password as it was set on the system?  If the former then I wouldn't worry, if the latter then I would be concerned also as someone seeing your password could use it to estimate other passwords that you might use.

Strong encryption does not need to be irreversible.

I also reset my password and they sent me an email with my password in plain view, not a temporary one. I deleted the email asap.

Sorry, I should have been clear. They sent me MY password, not assigned me a new one. If they'd just sent me a temporary password with a "Please log in and change it" message I wouldn't so concerned.

While it may be true that "strong encryption does not need to be irreversible", reversible encryption isn't the norm and is much harder to implement securely – which makes me worry that they're not using a very secure encryption method to store passwords.

Issue has been raised with PLP developers, more on this soon.

I did talk to someone via live chat, but they just pointed me to the privacy policy and didn't seem overly concerned that my PLP password has just been transferred through unknown networks and mail servers in plain text. I've since updated it of course and luckily with 1Password I have a different password for every service I use so I only had to change one.

@Samsmith

Any update on the 2012 TV support?  A geekzone member earlier stated that there was to be no app for the 2012 models after speaking to a PLP CSR.  Can you confirm once and for all if this is the case?

Chris
