I went into my Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen.) settings for the Apple Music app, but the best that I could select was 48Khz. However after a bit of googling, I found that yes, we can get 192 Khz after installing tvOS 27. My software is updated to 26.5, and that is the best I can get at the moment.

 

I believe that tvOS 27 and iOS 27 are due around September (don't quote me on that 😁). In the mean time, 48Khz will do just nicely.

 

Well, it is confirmed that tvOS 27 will upgrade Apple Music to 192 Khz on our Apple TV 4K Gen. 3 boxes, but there is a small issue for people who have their Apple TV 4K connected to their TV's eARC port. Most TV's will down sample the signal to 48 Khz, so they still won't be getting 192 Khz.

It's recommended that we connect our Apple TV 4K directly to our soundbar or receiver when playing Hi-res files from Apple Music. Just need to check that our soundbar or receiver can handle 192 Khz (most can).

I currently have my Apple TV 4K connected to the TV, but when iOS 27 is released, I'm going to connect it to my soundbar. In fact, I'm gonna do it now 😁

Just read online that Apple have increased the price of the current Gen. 3 Apple TV 4K from $279 to $439. Refurbished models have increased from $239 to $359. That's one large increase.

It seems that I just got in in time for the refurbished one that I just bought. It usually happens the other way round for me 😁

Apparently the increase also applies to some other Apple products.

The company are blaming the ongoing memory chip shortage, which has resulted in skyrocketing prices for RAM and SSD storage used in its products.

The Pianist (2002) has been upgraded to Dolby Vision on Cheap Charts, but it's still HD on my Apple TV app store. Oddly, it's showing Dolby Vision in the iTunes store on my PC.

Hopefully it will upgrade on the app soon.

With Masters of the Universe failing at the box-office, and Supergirl looking like she will suffer the same fate; are we going to see the billion dollar movies restricted to family animated films such as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (the only film to break the target this year so far) or Toy Story 5, which is heading toward the magic figure.

Are cinema audiences being very selective in what they spend their hard earned money on, or is streaming taking over? Considering the cost of going to the cinema against waiting for a digital release, it seems to be a no brainer. Masters of the Universe was initially made for Amazon's Prime Video platform, but it was belatedly decided to give it a run at theatres. The box-office take of US$110 million worldwide has helped to offset the production cost of US$170 m - US$200 m. Amazon are reportedly happy with the return, and are looking at filming a sequel. From all of the excellent reviews that I have read, I believe that people knew that it was going to stream free for Prime subscribers and decided to wait.

Supergirl however, is a major set back to the re-vamped DC Universe, and Warner Bros. must be deeply disappointed with the box-office return. With Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, plus Disclosure Day both underperforming, it will be interesting to see how The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day perform. Then, in December, Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday come to theatres.

One thing is nailed on. We will be able to buy or rent these films at a reasonable price from Apple Movies. 😁

Personally, I am looking forward to seeing Masters of the Universe in my comfortable home environment. It's been reported that the film will go digital on July 21.

Summary: Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) was once a star of London's 1960's and 70's pop art explosion, but he hasn't painted in decades and has been broke for years. His two estranged children (James Corden, Jessica Gunning), desperate for an inheritance, hire Lori, an art restorer and former forger (Michaela Coel), to pose as a prospective assistant in order to access 8 unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in storage. Her plan is to complete them, then return them to storage, where they are to be "discovered" upon Julian's death.

THE ODYSSEY - JULY 16th:

One of the year's most anticipated films will be showing at New Zealand cinemas from July 16th, and if you are lucky enough to have access, you can see it at one of New Zealand's two IMAX theatres.

The film has been filmed entirely with the next-generation 65mm cameras. For years, IMAX engineers have been quietly working on the evolution of their 65mm film platform. Director Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will be based on Homer's epic poem of the same name, which focuses on Odysseus. King of the island Ithaca, the brilliant Odysseus was crucial to the Greek victory in the Trojan War during the events of The Illiad​​​​​​. Before he could return home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus, Odysseus enraged the god Poseidon by blinding one of his Cyclops sons and found himself wildly off-course. Lost across the sea, Odysseus faced several monstrous and enticing threats while struggling to return home.

While most of The Odyssey is focused on his encounters with creatures like the Cyclops and the witch-goddess Circe, the story also features the struggles faced by Penelope and Telemachus in the decade that Odysseus is missing at sea. The epic poem has inspired countless retellings and has remained a fixture of storytelling for thousands of years. This sets up the idea that Nolan's take on the story could be the director's most epic film yet.
