  • Not having content in a timely manner, who wants to wait for Game of Thrones a year after it has aired in the US?

Isn't this service more a replacement for the local DVD store rather than Sky?

update to my prior review.

finally got it working on my Sony Bravia TV.

quality is noticeably better than PS3,which is itself noticeably better than using a web browser.

I had to use a ridiculous workaround to get it working though.

basically my Tv was already registered under my existing sony account (which also holds my PS3 and PSP registration) but for whatever reason the quickflix option would not show up on the SEN website to allow me to activate it. (the app was on my TV, but will not work without activation).

what I ended up doing was deregistering my TV on my SEN account, then creating a new SEN account under a different email. when I did that, somehow the quick flix bit appeared allowing me to go through the signing up process. major pain in the ass, but worth it for the higher quality streaming.

Has anyone had any luck signing in on their PS3? I have signed up and everything works sweet on the PC but the PS3 tells me I have the incorrect username or password. I see other people in this thread have had this issue, has anyone been abke to resolve it?

I had this problem the first day and Quicflix said Sony was migrating PS3 accounts and that was causing problem. I waited a day and it came right

I just left my PS3 for 24 hours and it worked.

I have the same problem but I dont know what account I originally registered my TV under. I tried a new emai address butg that will not show the Quicflix stuff. I have just tried deactivating my TV and will give it a while to see if that helps it qake up. As Quickflix tell me they have no visability of Sony's end and cannot really help. Quicflix keep promising to ring back but they never do

I am getting the feeling I am missing something here.

Do I need to log in to SEN and do something or register my PS3 in some way or some other such thing?

I had this problem the first day and Quicflix said Sony was migrating PS3 accounts and that was causing problem. I waited a day and it came right

Why should Sony have to "migrate an account" for me to be able to log in to Quickflix on my PS3, what has my SEN account got to do with it?

In any case, I will wait for 24 hours and try again as this seems to have worked for others.

coffeebaron: WOW! had a look at it on my brother n'laws PS3. 380 movies!

Yep, I fired up Quickflix on my PS3 and thought I was looking at an early April Fools joke!

Movie content was only 373 titles... (not 380 as the last page 38 only has 3 titles listed).

TV shows content was even worse... just 10 TV Series listed.  Black Adder, Black Adder, and Black Adder, through to Fawlty Towers.

Also, no indication of resolution (SD / HD / 720p etc.) on the movies.  The only clue seems to be the file size.  The latest movie featured is "Drive" which is listed as 0.79GB.

So if the latest movie is only 790MB in size I'm guessing the playback is only SD and significantly lower quality than DVD.  Disclaimer: I haven't forked out my $10 to verify this, as there are also no free trailers available to view, presumably you can preview after you pay?

So for me I can't see any value in giving them $10/month, then paying $6.99 for pay per view titles.  I also have the latest $159 Apple TV, which allows me to view "near Blu-ray quality" 1080p HD movie titles for $7.99 each, in addition to a whole lot of other really useful streaming functionality.

Just noticed the Quickflix PS3 Join page says "Watch Unlimited Movies...", also that their is an $8.50 joining fee in addition to the $9.99 per month.  I assume their definition of "Unlimited" is that you can watch the same movies over and over again, as opposed to "Unlimited" = 373.

My local DVD store has way more new stuff than Quickflix.

but is your local video store open at 3am? can you just select "play" and it instantly plays on your tv without having to go anywhere using your local video store?

this is a new service, and once they have more subscribers they will be able to afford more movies to be streamable.

what quickflix needs and appears to be missing (might be the due to small catalog) is recommendations. netflix has so many movies available its hard to find stuff, so it recommends movies/docos/tv shows based on whats trendy and past interest.

NonprayingMantis: looking at what they do in Ozzie, I see they have apps loaded onto Sony and Samsung Devices including connected TVs, PS3s, tablets etc. that pretty much covers off a large proportion of the market.

If they partner with Telstraclear (with the T-Box and cable set top box) or Telecom (with the TiVo) then they could potentially load apps onto their devices I presume.

Not sure what their library for Nz will look like though. Will they be able to get access to the good content, or does sky have it all locked up? If the only shows are old then I won't bother, but if there is some good stuff (SoHo type stuff) then I will definitely get rid of my multiroom, and possibly Sky altogether.

Telecom and TiVo? Surely you are not suggesting giving those two a second chance of a marriage?

haha, well who knows.  I have no idea if it is techincally possible, but TiVo had a media streaming capability via Caspa, and Telecom have been giving the things away for a while now - maybe they are doing it to get a good enough scale to launch quickflix?  (or maybe I am reading too much into it)

Pleaseohpleaseohplease - if the Caspa service on Tivo actually had decent content on it, that would be the icing on the cake, and if it was actually a Netflicks/QuickFlix type of monthly all-you-can-eat thing, then that would just be the ducks nuts! Especially with the free Tivo traffic for us on Telecom plans!

With that type of content, they could sell Tivos at $500, rather than giving them away...

Unfortunately TVNZ has no incentive to improve Tivo now that it has gotten into bed with Sky on Igloo. I doubt they would let anyone else take the franchise over - after all, why give competitors a platform? The only hope I have for seeing Quickflix on Tivo would be if the parent US Tivo company forced TVNZ to relinquish the franchise because of a failure to operate as an effective franchisee. Would be interesting to see what the franchise contract says in this regard.

If it is just going to be old TV shows and movies then it is of very little value to me. Looks like I'll have to keep getting my shows through other means.
