I am locking this discussion. This was to be a general Spark Sport, while the specific RWC Spark Sport is here.

Seeing there's no distinction, I will lock to make sure the discussion remains focused.

I have installed Matt's SparkSport Kodi add-on (Nvidia shield) but it looks a bit rubbish on my Samsung q7 tv.

Could someone please help me with the settings for best results.

Thank you.

I gave up when it got this bad.

I'm quite interested on your setup @kiwifidget to confirm my suspicion about the issues experienced.

- Using your mobile phone casting with Chromecast or casting from a laptop using chrome browser casting, or from iPhone using Airplay using Apple TV Gen1-3?

- Using a Chromecast (Gen1 or 2?), Apple TV (which version), built in app on the TV, using the browser built into the TV or a laptop/desktop plugged into the TV?

- Using any DNS unblocking services such as Getflix, running the latest version of Firefox with DNS over HTTPS enabled, using non ISP DNS servers (8.8.8.8/1.1.1.1) or using the ISP supplied DNS servers?

- Connecting everything over wireless or physically plugged in with an ethernet cable where possible.

- Fibre / VDSL / ADSL / Wireless Broadband connection with which ISP?

Interesting, and I assume the Q7 doesn't have a Chromecast built in, so you didn't try that instead of the built in App?

Such as if you have the TV on and you have YouTube open on your phone, does the Chromecast icon come up. I don't think it does have it. Appreciate the response.

careful with that way of checking. Youtube also uses DLNA when casting isnt available on some tvs.

DLNA or Dial, the latter proceeded the current mDNS protocol but is supported by many apps including YouTube and Netflix, but not always many others.

i sideloaded the spark app - and other than a few 10 sec periods of lower res - my stream last night was fine - no buffering and never dropped out.

(nvidia shield / cabled / 100:20 fibre)

That could be it too. Didnt realize there was another standard for it, i've alway just assumed it was only doing DLNA... makes sense since it does launch in the application etc

Geographically I'm located on the northshore of Auckland and have had fibre for several years now 200Mbit with big pipe which is simply rock solid all the time. Netflix is flawless.

Spark Sport had issues earlier this year with their UI and raft of other BETA type software issues which mostly got addressed slowly. I opted for chromecast ultra (hard wired via CAT6). Leading up to the world cup in the last week things have been looking hopeful and even yesterday before NZ vs RSA everything was looking promising. During the first half I experienced frequent reductions in quality (unwatchable), in the second half after the Duke banner things improved and the second half after that was mostly watchable. Clearly their system wasn't load tested adequately, I have just been watching ITA vs NAM and it's still not right. There seems to be some sound artifact now too that sounds like morse code in the background which is novel. Spark have selected the wrong sport to test their fledgling technology, I am simply overwhelmed at their amateur approach at deploying in a super condensed time frame with a national sport which is so important. This is the same old monopolistic behavior that plagued the Telecom days...sad. And they have the nerve to say:"a select few were affected" LOL I call BS on that!
