I'm currently watching the Singapore F1 Race, has anyone else seen vertical jumps throughout the stream?

The top of the video stream, dips to about half way through the screen. The top of the screen is filled with the image from the bottom half of the screen.

Same on Qualifying VOD on iOS App. Watching Race VOD on Kodi Add-On.

I've counted around 13 jumps so far.

i noticed it last night when I was watching live for me it was only happening on one corner of the track so I think it might have been the f1 camera🤷‍♂️

Yeah I'd say it's a flakey camera feed from FOM - I've noticed nothing else doing it so far so I'd say not a spark issue.

Is it likely that streaming in the future will be without a delay?
If you’ve got an app installed with live scores, chances are that you’ll know that the try has been scored, prior to you watching it on the stream (as there generally is a 30-60 secs delay).

Unlikely. Can't beat physics.

But with a satellite signal, it’s almost live (maybe 1 second delay or so).
So the way we’ll watch sport in the future will have this issue.
Also, you won’t be able to watch a game on TV and then get radio commentary, due to the delay (sync issue).

i meant encoding and other picture alterations takes time, so unlikely to match live score. with 4K that takes longer. 8K even more complex.

Chunked CMAF has already been shown to be faster than broadcast, it just needs to become more widely spread which will happen over time.  Also, satellite signals are generally around 10 seconds behind live due to the time it takes for the radio signals to make the round trip to the satellite and back (about 5 seconds each way).

Chunked CMAF?
Is that what they currently use or will it be used in the future for streaming?

sm1ff: I am also pissed off that there's no 5.1 audio. It's my number 1 complaint, considering that this is a paid service not having 5.1 audio is completely unacceptable, this is essential as in 1080p as you cant have one without the other.

It's the same on Spark's Lightbox service, no 5.1 audio. While I'm happy to watch TV with my free subscription, any movies rented are through Google Play Movies for me.

It’s a new streaming technology, they don’t use it yet but it will likely be adopted by many streaming services in the future.

If you watch Trackside 1/2 on the TAB website its live (within seconds and is close with sky..)

If you watch the same channels on Spark Sport, there is a 20-30 second delay

I just put side by side F1 streams from Spark Sport / Kayo and Spark is showing around 20-30 seconds behind that as well

nope. it take less than a second for satellite signal to go there and back.

only has to travel 35,786 km to the satellite and 35,786 km back + the distance to the ground station. signal travels at the speed of light which is 299,792 kilometers per second

ive used many satellite connections with pings less than 800ms.

I was wondering as well, when I read about the 10 secs delay. I’ve been to quite a few games at stadiums, where they also had the game running on Sky Sport (in the bar areas etc). Definitely not a 10 sec delay. More like a second if that.

This, the delay is due encode/decode hops.

Really? I was talking with Kordia last year and they were predicting a 10 second round trip for anything going via satellite for our particular use case. Weird.
