@FineWine they have been trotting out that excuse for a month - see here.

How they could possibly think signing off on a platform that doesn't support landscape when all their content is landscape is beyond me. The whole thing is so far from being fit for public release.

yeah i sent some feedback too after checking this thread and working out it was not just me. i said that it was not fit for purpose if i cannot do landscape...

Finding that the iPad app opens in portrait mode until you hit “channels” to watch anything live and it flips to landscape….then when content finishes it reverts back to portrait).

Noticed that the Apple TV app that previously held the number 1 position in the ATV app store has dropped to number 8. No guesses needed as to why.

Suspect the continue watching issue is a server side thing, independent of the client used, so probably a partial fix at their end.

And for reference, the garbage picture quality remains on some shows. From is still sitting at less than 1Mb/s with the picture a soft blury mess, including the ads.

Scrolling around the UI is jumpy and jerky, even on the current model ATV, whereas the previous app was fine even on a 10 year old ATV HD.

They have updated the splash screen though, so presumably that justifies a new version number and makes all the difference to a good viewing experience. Not.

It's been behaving quite well for me recently on ATV as far as navigation and watching goes. Only real pain is the continue watching section not updating.

I guess to summarise where things are at, specifically using Apple TV client (currently v 7.0.4):

1) The crashing/freezing/lock ups seem to have been fixed.

2) Remembering watch history/place has improved, but still problematic.

3) Picture quality - still dreadful on some shows (From is a repeatable example) and fine on others. Unclear if this is a client or server side issue though.

4) App UI is jumpy, scrolling not smooth, even on most recent ATV.

The UI is now smooth and fast on my ATV 4K 128 GB.

I'm going back to my previous observation that the UI is jumpy - particularly scrolling up and down on say the home screen.

And still sub 1Mb/s stream using From as a test show.
